The Pittsburgh Pirates have dominated National League West foes this season, which will lead to an easy victory over the struggling Colorado Rockies Friday night. We look at the MLB odds on offer and attempt to hunt down the best betting value on the boards.

Pittsburgh is seven games over .500 for the first time during the 2014 campaign, which will make the club one of the more popular MLB picks on the board, as it enjoyed an off day after securing a 6-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers as -156 home favorites Wednesday.

The Pirates will look to improve upon their 14-5 record against NL West opponents, as they embark on a season-high 10-game road trip.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 123-89 when taking on teams with a losing record, including a 9-1 mark in that situation in the second half of this season.

Major holes to fill
Colorado has dropped 13 of 18 games this month, which isn’t much of a surprise when you consider that the squad is currently playing without the services of Michael Cuddyer, Justin Morneau and Troy Tulowitzki.

The Rockies aren’t receiving much help from their bullpen with that loss of offensive firepower, as the group has put together a 9.93 ERA over the last eight contests.

MLB handicappers will find that the team is 5-8 as home underdogs of +100 to +125, with the UNDER going 7-4-2 in those 13 opportunities.

Pirates starting pitcher Charlie Morton (5-9, 3.28 ERA) hasn’t earned a decision in his last three trips to the mound, but the club has prevailed in two of those affairs, including a 3-2 home victory over the Rockies last Saturday.

The right-hander is 2-6 with a 4.19 ERA in 11 road appearances—serving up seven home runs in 68.2 combined frames.

Morton has registered a 2-0 record and 3.16 ERA in five lifetime efforts versus the Rockies.

Rockies starting pitcher Brett Anderson (0-3, 4.00 ERA) will make his third appearance since returning to the rotation after missing 81 games due to a broken left index finger, as he didn’t factor into the decision when matching up with Morton last time out.

Sports bettors need to be aware that the left-hander owns a 24-6 record over 37 career starts with run support of three or more runs, but he’s received two or less in four of his last five appearances.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Pirates as one of their MLB picks, as the Pirates have won all three games as a road favorite of -125 to -150 this year.
