Following the first rain-out in Anaheim in 20 years Sunday night. The Halos send a hot rookie to the hill, but this handicapper thinks the betting value might reside with a Boston knuckle-baller.

Sox-Angels Monday Betting Odds
As of Monday AM the best line we could find on Anaheim with lefty Andrew Heaney was the -155 offered at YouWager, while Boston and knuckle-baller Steven Wright were getting +150 at Heritage. Also, most books on our MLB odds board were listing a total of eight runs on tonight's game, although there were a few 7.5's out there.

The Situation
Anaheim has taken the first two games of this four-game series, by scores of 3-0 and 1-0. Monday night's regular-scheduled game will be played after the teams play a make-up game during the afternoon, following Sunday night's rain-out.

The Angels have won 13 of their last 16 games to overtake the Astros in the AL West; at 50-40 they now lead Houston by a game in their divisional race.

Boston, on the other hand, has lost four of its last five, and at 42-49 lags 7.5 games behind the nearest American League playoff spot.

The Angles have taken three of five games from the Sox this season, with the UNDERS going 3-2.

Monday's Pitching Match-Up
Heaney (3-0, 1.32) is a perfect four-for-four on quality starts since joining the Anaheim rotation a little less than a month ago. Eight days ago he held Seattle scoreless on five hits through seven innings, and over his four starts he's allowed just four runs and 23 base-runners (hits + walks) through 27 1/3 innings.

The Angels are a perfect 4-0 in Heaney's starts, with the totals splitting 2-2.

This will be Heaney's first-ever start against the Red Sox, which could give him an edge, at least for the first few times through the lineup.

Wright (3-2, 4.15) will be making his first appearance for the Big Club in a month, after doing some time back at Triple-A . He's one-for-four on quality starts this year for Boston, by our tough standards, last starting back on June 4, when he gave up four runs – three earned – through six innings against Minnesota. He's since made five relief appearances, giving up five runs over his last 3 2/3 innings. On the season Wright has allowed 41 hits, including seven homers, through 43 1/3 innings, walked 13 and struck out just 24.

Boston is 1-3 in games Wright has started, with the OVERS going 3-1.

In his only career start against the Angels, back in May, Wright held them to two runs and four hits through 6 1/3 innings of an 8-3 Sox victory.

Monday's Batting Splits
Boston ranks 24th in the Bigs right now against left-handed pitching with a .232 team batting average, and 23rd with a .303 team on-base percentage.

Anaheim ranks 21st against right-handed pitching with a .249 average and 20th in OBP at .310.

The Angels faced Toronto knuckle-baller RA Dickey back on May 21, managing just two runs through the first eight innings, before tacking on a couple of meaningless runs in the ninth in an 8-4 loss.

Ballpark Totals Factor
Games played at Angel Stadium are 27-17 on the UNDERS this season, averaging 6.9 runs per, fourth-fewest among all ML ballparks.

Sox-Angels Monday Free Picks
We give Heaney the edge in the pitching match-up, but Anaheim had little success against Wright back in May, and didn't fare much better two days later against Dickey. The value on tonight's line resides with Boston. Also, neither lineup is lighting it up at the moment, so we're thinking UNDER for your Monday's MLB picks.

MLB Picks: Boston +150 at Heritage and UNDER eight runs (-115) at 5Dimes
