This seems to be a matchup of two teams heading in different directions & with serious playoff implications. I suggest grabbing some value and taking the Rangers as one of your Saturday MLB picks.
MLB odds makers came out making Los Angeles the natural favorite in this spot at home at -120 with the Rangers at +110. That line has dropped a little bit as it seems some money has come in on Texas. Still, you can get some good plus money value on the underdog Rangers at Heritage Sports at +108.
Derek Holland gets the start for Texas with a 2.82 ERA, your 0.94 whip, 20 strikeouts, and a 2-1 record. Just coming back from injury he has pitched pretty well in just four appearances. He was extremely sharp in his last outing going the distance allowing just three hits and no earned runs against a good hitting team in the Baltimore Orioles. Although this will be his first road start this season in his past three years he has a very solid 3.33 ERA and batters only hitting .237 against him away from Arlington.
Texas ranks seventh in the major leagues in runs scored per game at 4.45, ninth in OPS at .729, and ninth in batting average hitting .257 as a team. One major issue I do not like about backing them today is the fact they are very different hitting team on the road than they are at home. Still, they are very familiar with today's starter Jered Weaver being in the same division so they should have some quality at-bats.
Los Angeles Angels
Jered Weaver takes the mound for Los Angeles with a 4.94 ERA, 1.23 whip, 67 strikeouts, and a 6-10 record. He is arguably having the worst year of his nine-year major league career. In his last 10 starts he has not been less than stellar allowing six or more runs in three of those starts and then four runs in another three. He is a veteran major league pitcher but recently he has struggled allowing 14 earned runs in his last two starts. Although I do expect him to pitch a lot better today at home, I am anticipating the Rangers to get enough to go ahead and pull off the minor upset.
The Angels rank 23rd in the major leagues in runs scored per game at 4.02, 25th in OPS at .694, and 28th in batting average hitting .244 as a team. I was surprised with their strong offensive output again Sonny Gray in Oakland the other day, but after reviewing that game it was more of an aberration then what we have seen as the standard offensive output from them. At home the Angels actually average less runs per game than they do on the road and I think their in a tough matchup today facing a solid pitcher in Holland.
From +100 to anything bigger I like Texas in this spot in a game which is at worst a coin flip, but a game in which I really think the Rangers are going to win. They have been playing extremely well recently and I suggest you add them to your MLB picks
today on the plus money line, back the Rangers.
