Ross Benjamin examines a couple of division rivalry games tonight in the games between the Blue Jays/Yankees and the Dodgers/Giants. Do you want to know who has the MLB wagering edge regarding the starting pitchers in these games? Then this sports handicapping article is a must read before embarking on your MLB betting today.

Toronto Blue Jays (Buehrle) @ New York Yankees (Kuroda) 7:05 PM ET
The Blue Jays starter Mark Buehrle has a very good body of work thus far in 2014, going 14-6 against the money line, and posting a shining 2.86 ERA. However, the Blue Jays southpaw has been extremely inept versus the Yankees is his career going a horrendous 2-16 against the money line, and posting a lofty 5.81 ERA in the process. Buehrle has allowed just 9 home runs in 132 1/3 innings this season, that’s 1 homer per 14.7 innings pitched. Unfortunately for Buehrle’s sake, 3 of those 9 home runs allowed came versus the Yankees, and they occurred in just 12 2/3 of work. The Toronto hurler has displayed bad form in his last 3-starts posting a 5.29 ERA and a large 1.88 WHIP in those outings.

The Yankees starter Hideki Kuroda has seen 8 of his last 9-starts go under the total, while posting a solid 3.10 ERA, and 1.03 WHIP. The right-hander comes off a sparkling effort versus the Reds in his last outing, allowing no earned runs, and 3-hits in 6 2/3 innings. Kuroda has seen all 8 of his starts go under the total during the last 2-seasons after allowing no earned runs in his previous appearance. He’s a profitable 7-3 against the money line at Yankee Stadium in 2014, and has a better than 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio in those outings.

Advantage:  History has shown, as I’ve briefly detailed, how well Kuroda pitches in situations like tonight. Contrarily, Buehrle has been far from sharp in recent starts, and his ineptitude against the Yankees during his career can’t be ignored. Then considering the fact, that the Yankees are 20-2 against the money line at home during the last 3-seasons versus the Blue Jays, and we’re looking at an awfully strong MLB betting situation. When doing my MLB handicapping in this game, I give the sports wagering edge to Hideki Kuroda over Mark Buehrle.

Los Angeles Dodgers (Greinke) @ San Francisco Giants (Lincecum) 10:15 PM ET
The Dodgers starter Zack Grienke has seen 3 of his last 4-starts go under the total, and has displayed good form in posting a 2.93 ERA. The Dodgers hurler has gone 4-0 against the money line in his career versus the Giants, with a stellar 2.96 ERA, and all of those outings have taken place since 2012. The right-hander has gone an extremely profitable 17-4 against the money line over the last 2-seasons when facing a NL West division opponent. On a negative note, Greinke has been shaky in his last 4 road starts, going 1-3 against the money line, and posting a lofty 4.44 ERA, and a 1.52 WHIP.

The Giants starter Tim Lincecum has gone a terrific 7-1 in his last 8-starts against the money line when facing the Dodgers, and has a very good 2.47 ERA in those outings. The Giants veteran hasn’t seen any of his last 6 home starts versus the Dodgers go over the total, and much of that has to do with his superb 1.56 ERA during that span. He’s also been an extremely profitable 9-3 against the money line at home this season for a +5.00 units.

Advantage: When doing my MLB handicapping regarding the starting pitchers in this game, several factors seem to be a wash, but the deciding one for me was Lincecum’s success at home, and Grienke’s recent failures on the road. When evaluating my MLB betting strategies in this game, I give a slight edge to Tim Lincecum over Zack Grienke. Given the current MLB odds, we can back the Giants as dogs for a nice payout.
