We’re going to examine Monday’s series opening game between the Tigers and Twins. Go inside to read our compelling betting preview article on this game which culminates with a money line pick.
AL Central Series Opener at Target Field
The Tigers and Twins open a three game series on Monday. The first pitch at Target Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota is slated for 8:10 PM ET. This will be the fourteenth game of the season between these AL Central rivals, and Detroit has won eight of thirteen thus far.
Twins Playoff Update
Minnesota enters today with a 74-68 record, and to the dismay of many so called experts preseason predictions, they’re very much in contention for one of two American League wild card spots. With twenty regular season games left to play, they trail Texas by 1.0 for the final wild card position. Tonight will be the first of a ten game home stand, and they’ll play 17 of their remaining 20 games at Target Field. That should give them an excellent opportunity to qualify for the postseason based on a stellar 42-26 (.618) home record in 2015.
Major Disappointment for Tigers in 2015
The Detroit Tigers were expected to once again win the AL Central, and at the very least be a wild card team. However, they enter the final three weeks of the season in last place with a 65-77 record, and are 19.0 games behind the division leading Kansas City Royals. This is a veteran laden lineup that certainly has the look of a team with very little to play for.
Monday’s Starting Pitchers
Detroit is scheduled to go with southpaw Kyle Lobstein on the mound today. Lobstein has struggled terribly of late, going 0-5 in his previous five starts, and posted a large 8.39 ERA during those outings. He’s made two career starts versus Minnesota with one coming this year and the other in 2014. The Twins have had their way with Lobstein, evidenced by his massive 15.43 career ERA against them.
Tyler Duffey had a shaky MLB debut after being called up from AAA Rochester. In his defense, that outing was at Toronto against one of the most powerful batting orders (Blue Jays) in baseball. He’s certainly settled down since that time. Duffey has posted a stellar 2.67 ERA in his last five starts, and Minnesota went 4-1 during those games.
The Tigers are coming off a doubleheader against Cleveland on Sunday, and now have to open another series on the road while playing with no rest. The Twins are coming off a relatively successful 5-4 road trip, and have everything to play for right now. The starting pitching matchup tonight clearly favors Minnesota. My small lean here goes to the home team as one of my MLB picks for Monday. According to current MLB odds at TheGreek.com, they require the least amount of juice for this wager.
