We continue to the ride the hot teams as they're in desperation mode where the postseason is concerned. See if we continue to hit our picks with our coveted MLB Picks of the Day for Saturday.

Striking while the iron is hot is essential in handicapping and we've doubled up on our plays lately as this is the best time to bet. When teams are in must win situations, bettors can win at a higher percentage as teams know that 'there's no tomorrow' in this 162 game grind that we call the MLB Regular Season.

Early Game Alert!

Normally, I don't choose the early games as I attempt to provide the maximum amount of print time for each game that I pick, but in this case, we've been riding the Yankees bandwagon and we're not about to stop now.

Tampa Bay Rays vs New York Yankees

Yankees Keep Rolling
Off of a Mark Teixeira grand slam home run, the New York Yankees secured a 7-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays last night. These games are so important that manager, Joe Girardi, took out the starter, Michael Pineda, with a 7-2 lead and after Pineda pitching 4 2/3 innings. This prevented Pineda from picking up the victory and proved just how important these games are to the Yankees, who have won 6 straight games and are a season-high 10 games over .500 at 75-65.

This afternoon, the Yankees are in the "catbird's seat" as their best pitcher, Masahiro Tanaka (12-4, 3.11 ERA) takes the mound and Tanaka is pitching some of his best baseball as a professional in the United States. Not only that, Tanaka and the Bombers face a tough starter in his own right in Chris Archer (8-17, 4.06 ERA) and that makes the betting odds more reasonable where backing the Yankees are concerned. While Archer has 17 losses to his credit, he can't be blamed for all of them as he simply doesn't receive an adequate amount of run support. The Rays are an all or nothing team. Meaning, they hit home runs or make outs.

Perfect Timing
Although Masahiro Tanaka has had an exceptional season, he's really been pouring it on as of late and pitching like an elite pitcher in the MLB.

In Tanaka's last 4 starts, he's allowed a mere 4 runs in 26 innings pitched. He's also won his last 5 decisions and opposing batters are hitting just .238 off of Tanaka. Not only that, Tanaka has had great success against the Rays, allowing 6 runs in 21 innings pitched. This is a huge spot for Tanaka and the Yankees as they're playing a very weak team and they're also the hottest team in the division. Look for Tanaka to bring his best in this afternoon start at the Bronx.

Leaving a Lasting Impression
This has been a really rough season for Mark Teixeira as he hovers around the Mendoza Line and he's also going to retire after a great career. That said, the pressure is off of Teixeira and this has enabled him to have fun and have games like he had last night. He came very close to having 2 home runs last night and I expect "Tex" to get hot and making a lasting impression on this league. He's a .379 hitter with 1 HR and 5 RBI's in 39 at-bats against the Rays and this is a great spot for the veteran Teixeira. Look for the Yankees to extend their winning streak. Although Archer is a tough pitcher, the Yankees are full of confidence and players stepping up. They are a good MLB Pick for today.

New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves

Defying "Father Time"
The New York Mets are another New York-based team which is on a major roll as they seek as a post-season berth. The Amazins have won 6 straight games and 8 out of their last 10 games. This has the team that has the knack for coming from behind and overtaking their opponent. While injuries have taken their toll on the Mets and they aren't as good a team as last season, they're playing above their heads and their remaining schedule is very weak.

That said, Bartolo Colon (13-7, 3.22 ERA) has been a huge reason for the Mets success. At 43 years of age and being a very portly individual, it doesn't seem to affect Colon as he produces quality outing after quality outing. Pitching against a bottom-feeder such as the Atlanta Braves (54-87) should be no problem for Colon. Atlanta is a team that's going absolutely nowhere.

Reviving His Career
People forget that Matt Kemp was close to winning a triple crown and was one of the best players in the National League until he injured his hamstring. Ever since then. Kemp has still provided power but doesn't get on base as often.

September has been very kind to Matt Kemp as he's hitting .324 with 3 HR and 9 RBI in 37 at-bats. In last night's game, Kemp went deep and for the season, he has a very respectable 29 HR and 95 RBI's to go along with a .262 BA. What Kemp does provide is support to superstar Freddie Freeman and pitching to this Braves lineup has become a bit more difficult. Colon will have his hands full, but in the end, look for the Mets to win their 7th straight game.
