In the American League today, I am placing my MLB picks backing the L.A. Angels to beat the Boston Red Sox in game two of their three game series in Fenway.

The Line and Pitchers
MLB odds makers have set this line with the Angels as a small underdog of around +105.  Not a ton of value here but still value nonetheless.  They are playing a little better recently having won against the Sox yesterday and are 7-3 in their last ten games compared to the Sox at 4-6.  Hector Santiago for the Angels comes in with a 2.25 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in eight starts this season.  At 27 years old it seems he starting to come into his prime and has pitched really solid this season.  Wade Miley takes the mound for the Red Sox and comes in with an ERA just above 5.00 and a 1.44 WHIP, he is not as bad as his numbers and has pitched much better recently allowing only 2 earned runs in his last 13 innings pitched.

Score to Win
Neither team is lighting the world on fire with their hitting but the Angels are the hotter team coming into today.  Statistically overall this season both teams rank in the bottom half of the league in most offensive categories with not a lot of disparity between them.  In the last three games though, the Angels lead the league in runs scored and slugging percentage.  They are also 8th in on base percentage.  The Red Sox remain true to their league numbers and rank in the bottom half of the league offensively in that time frame.

It is hard to make the Red Sox an underdog at home, but they are simply not that good this year and the numbers back that up.  Until they start to get hot and turn things around the value MLB picks today are on the Angels.
