Time to tackle Sunday’s slate of MLB games as Coors Field had to cancel yesterday’s game due to a stadium issue. This afternoon’s Cincinnati vs. Colorado game is definitely on my radar with my betting picks.

Yesterday, we learned that David Price of the Detroit Tigers is the new king and Felix Hernandez might have been dethroned…well at least for one game.

Sunday Night Baseball

Oakland Athletics (73-50) vs. Atlanta Braves (63-60)

The Braves Of Old
I always recognize the Atlanta Braves as a baseball team that finds ways to win baseball games.

Recently, they went on a major losing streak and now they find themselves chasing the Washington Nationals for the National League East Division Title with 39 games to go in the season. That said, Atlanta has appeared to re-gain control of their season as they’ve made easy work of the best team in baseball in the Oakland Athletics, taking the first two games of this series.

Can the Braves sweep the A’s, who have lost 4 straight games? It will be tough as Jon Lester gets the ball tonight for Oakland on national television.

A Great Acquisition
Most intelligent people know that while Yoenis Cespedes might be the king of the Home Run Derby, he’s just an average baseball player. The same can’t be said for pitcher Jon Lester (13-7, 2.51). Oakland acquired Lester from the deteriorating Boston Red Sox and Lester just might be the guy to put the A’s over the hump and into the World Series.

Since joining the Athletics, Lester has pitched relatively well. In 3 starts, he’s allowed 6 runs  and won all 3 decisions. This is a pitcher that doesn’t allow home runs. He’s allowed 9 long balls all season long. Atlanta starter, Mike Minor (4-8, 5.33), will need to be at his best or Oakland will run away with this game despite their extended losing streak.

The Braves will rely upon Freddie Freeman as he’s really carried a hot bat in the month of August. This month, Freeman is hitting.389 with 2 HR and 9 RBI. I don’t think Atlanta’s really concerned about going deep as they can beat an opposing team in many different ways, but tonight it starts with Mike Minor.

Cincinnati Reds (61-61) vs. Colorado Rockies (47-75)

Complete and Utter Chaos At Coors Field
Thanks to a water main break, yesterday’s game was cancelled very late, sending a lot of fans home angry. The  betting odds came out very late for this afternoon’s game. had this game scheduled for 9:00 pm ET and now it has changed to an afternoon affair. This won’t change my mind as I excel at betting on Coors Field games.

No Tulo, No Wins
Ever since Troy Tulowitzki got injured, the Rockies have went downhill fast. This is a good player, but very overrated due to playing at Coors Field.

On a promotional night, the Rockies organization misspelled Tulowitzki’s last name. Tulowitzki was seen at a Yankees game injured while his team was playing. If that’s not the sign of utter disrespect than I don’t know what is. To sum it up Colorado is on the same level as Texas; a complete disaster.

I have my own method of betting for Coors Field games and it’s worked out quite well. Whenever there’s a visiting pitcher to be considered above average, we take under the total because odds maker create high betting totals in Rockies games. If the visiting pitcher is below average, you take the over the total. This trend has been very consistent.

Tonight we have a bit of a problem as Cincy’s pitcher Mat Latos (4-3, 2.95) isn’t a great pitcher by any means. That said, he’s facing a very formidable pitcher in Jordan Lyles (6-1, 3.70) for the Rockies. Lyles doesn’t go deep into ball games but he’s pitched quite well this season. Of course, the betting total is bloated for this game at 10.5. Take the under.

MLB Pick: Cincinnati/ Colorado Under 10.5 -116 at 5Dimes -2 Unit Play
