MLB odds for Wednesday’s clash suggest the Mets are about to lose their third straight to the Yankees when their interleague rivalry shifts from the Bronx to Queens.

MLB Season Record: 61-62-3 (+0.89)

After taking the first two games in the Subway Series on their home turf in the Bronx, the New York Yankees look to keep the good times rolling when the set against the New York Mets moves to Queens on Wednesday. ESPN will carry the matchup beginning at 7 PM (ET), Jaime Garcia (5-8, 4.50) vs. Robert Gsellman (5-5, 6.16) for the initial mound duel that has BetOnline posting the visitors at -137 with 9 for the scoreboard hurdle.

The Yanks used three home runs to rally and take Monday’s series opener in the Bronx, 4-2 as +160 underdogs on the MLB odds. Tuesday saw the Yankees build a 4-0 lead then hold on for a 5-4 victory, leaving them 65-46 in the rivalry. The Mets are 8-13 in the series at Citi Field where seven of the last nine were ‘under’ winners.

Mets 2-0 Vs. Garcia This Season

Garcia didn’t really pitch any better in his second start for the Yankees than the first, but the end result was a victory vs. the rival Red Sox. The Mets beat him twice earlier this season while Garcia was with the Braves, one of them during the opening series back in April when the lefty was charged with four runs over the course of six innings without a strikeout. Wilmer Flores has taken Garcia deep twice in 12 career at bats, the only long balls he’s allowed to anyone in the Mets lineup.

Gsellman is coming off the DL to make his first start in nearly two months, the 24-year-old sidelined due to a strained hamstring. He returns just in time after Seth Lugo, Wednesday’s original starter, was placed on the DL with a bum shoulder. Gsellman was solid in one rehab appearance and lit up in the other. Tonight’s his first experience against the Yanks, Gsellman 5-5 with a 4.26 ERA for his career in 12 starts and a couple of relief outings at Citi Field.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Expectations are the umpire crew will take the short subway ride over to Flushing with the teams and continue with their same rotation. That puts Chad Whitson behind the dish for this one, his 22nd plate assignment of the season with 14 of the previous 21 going ‘over’ the totals. An even more alarming stat is the 17-4 rate home teams have cashed when the Ohio native calls balls and strikes, 3-1 as underdog.

Clear skies, temps in the low 80s and a light westerly breeze (out to right) is the forecast this evening. Both pitchers are a bit of a crapshoot for my liking, but I’ll bite the bullet with a free baseball pick on the Yankees with a run line wager.
