Our resident MLB handicapper provides us with a betting preview article pertaining to Thursday’s game between Boston and Houston. This informative piece concludes with his money line pick.

Red Sox and Astros in Series Finale
The Astros and Red Sox will wrap up their three game series today at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The first pitch is slated for 8:10 PM ET. The Astros won each of the first two games in this series and are now 3-2 versus Boston this year.

Starting Pitchers
Boston will go with southpaw Wade Miley on the mound today. Miley has an unimpressive 1.54 WHIP in eleven road starts this season. The Boston hurler registered a lofty 4.88 ERA during his last four starts overall, and has displayed some control issues in those outings by walking 11 in 24.0 innings.

The Astros starting pitcher will be Lance McCullers. He’s been absolutely brilliant in five starts at home this season, posting an excellent 1.20 ERA and 0.90 WHIP. In his one starts versus Boston in 2015, he allowed just 1 earned run during 5.0 innings of work.

Hard Time for Red Sox
After seemingly being primed to make a second half run by going 15-8 during a 23 game stretch, the Red Sox have followed that by losing seven in a row headed into tonight. During this current losing streak, they’ve averaged just 2.1 runs per game, and possess a dismal team batting average of .210. Boston is also a terrible 20-30 (.400) on the road in 2015.

Astros are tough at Home
The Houston Astros are 8-1 in their previous nine home games, and are a stellar 32-17 (.653) overall at Minute Maid Park during this 2015 MLB campaign. Tonight will be the finale of a six game home stand, and they’ve gone 24-8 this season following three or more home games in a row.

Final Analysis
I like the confidence in which Houston’s youngster McCullers has exhibited at home this season. On the other hand, I’m underwhelmed by Wade Miley, and especially in away games. The Red Sox are an absolute mess, and have inexplicably vastly underachieved thus far. I’m going to side with the home team for one of my MLB picks on Thursday. BetOnline will get my call for this wager considering they currently have the cheapest price.
