For today's upset in MLB betting action we head to Seattle when the Houston Astros take on the Seattle Mariners. The Astros have been one of the surprise teams in the league this year and I will back them in this spot to beat the Mariners.
MLB odds makers have come out with this game with the Astros a small underdog at +105. That is pretty much across the board at most sportsbooks but right now the best line I have seen is at Heritage Sports at +106. The Astros are having a much better season but the fact they have a rookie pitcher on the mound makes them the underdog today. Still, decent value today on the better team.
Vincent Velasquez gets the call for the Astros and comes in with a 4.66 ERA and 1.66 WHIP, but that is in only two career starts. He is coming off a really rough outing against the Rockies giving up five runs in just four innings, but prior to that he pitch really well allowing zero earned runs in five innings against the White Sox. In his five seasons in the minor leagues he had a 3.26 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. Fortunately for him he is facing a Mariners team that has not been very good on the offensive end. For the Mariners J.A. Happ takes the mound with a 3.79 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. The former Astro has pitched well this season but in his last two starts he allowed seven runs in eight innings pitched. Also, the Mariners have lost their last four games when he started on the mound. In his career against the Astros he has a 5.40 ERA and 1.35 WHIP allowing eight earned runs in 13 innings.

Houston ranks seventh in the league in runs scored per game and have been playing really good baseball this season. They also rank sixth in the league in on base plus slugging percentage. Overall they lead the Mariners in every major offensive category. They just seem to be a different team this year than we have seen in the past few. They do still strikeout quite a bit rank second to last in that category in the major leagues, fortunately though Happ is not a big strikeout pitcher with only 57 strikeouts and 73 innings pitched. The Mariners are one of the worst hitting teams in baseball and they have the stats to back it up. They rank second to last in runs scored per game, last in batting average, 25th in slugging percentage, and 27th in on base percentage. The only decent thing about them is that their offensive stats go up at home albeit slightly.
There is still some unknown factors as to how Velasquez will turn out as a major league pitcher, but Happ could have some trouble with his former team. Back the Astros to get the win here on the small +112 money line at 5Dimes
