Pitching failed the Astros when they ended a homestand on Thursday, but now they have ace Dallas Keuchel on the mound to start a series in Anaheim against the Angels on Friday.

MLB Season Record: 10-19 (-10.19)

A successful homestand behind them, the Houston Astros take their AL West-leading act on the road for a short 3-game road trip against the Los Angeles Angels. The series starts Friday (10:07 PM ET) with Houston trotting ace Dallas Keuchel to the mound opposite Jesse Chavez. Since the Angels confirmed Chavez as their starting pitcher late, overnight MLB odds were not released.

Once they were this morning, Keuchel and the Astros were handed chalk lines around -140 at most of SBR's top sportsbooks. BetOnline has set the scoreboard barrier at 8. Houston begins the weekend with the best record in the American League and a 4½-game lead over LA in the West.

Chavez Looks To Avenge April Loss In Houston

Named the American League Pitcher of April earlier this week, Keuchel has strung together four consecutive wins and the Astros are 5-1 in his six assignments this season. The 2015 AL Cy Young winner has worked at least seven frames each time out, allowing more than one run just once when Keuchel went the distance in Cleveland in a 4-2 victory. He beat the Angels in Houston three starts ago, striking out seven and surrendering just one run and is 3-1 his last four starts at the Big A with a 2.77 ERA.

Chavez suffered his fourth loss of the season last Saturday at Texas, leaving after six frames and allowing four runs. The Cali native also lost in Houston back in mid-April, a tough-luck setback in which he was charged with just one earned run in seven innings. The well-traveled right-hander is 2-2 with a 5.29 ERA in four appearances at home this year, one of those out of the bullpen, and owns a 3.50 career ERA in this park (51.1 IP).

Series Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

This is the second meeting between the clubs on the 2017 fixture, the Astros taking three of four in Houston a little more than two weeks ago. All four of those contests stayed 'under' totals in the 7½-8½ range. The 'Stros won six of nine in Anaheim last season, the 'under' cashing five of those affairs.

Believe it or not, there is a slight chance of rain this evening in normally sunny Southern California. Fortunately, the best chances come after the game should be finished. Expect most of the game to be played under cloudy skies, in the low 60s with a slight SW breeze (out to center).

Put me down as someone who believes the money line on Houston is a bit high, and I suspect it will move more towards -130 by game time. Keuchel's in a groove and tough to bet against, but my free baseball pick will be the 'under' when these division foes collide.
