The Pirates have been playing good baseball lately and were able to pick up the win in the opener yesterday. Will A.J. Burnett & this gritty Pittsburgh team be worth backing with your MLB picks?

Odds Overview
With Pittsburgh playing well and also holding the pitching edge this evening, we can't disagree with what we see on the MLB odds board. The Pirates are listed as -125 favorites at a lot of the major sportsbooks, which means Arizona is an underdog, quoted at +115 at the major sites.

The O/U is at 8.5 runs right now, one of the higher numbers out there for Saturday.

Arizona Diamondbacks (De La Rosa)
The Diamondbacks haven't been doing all that poorly, as they're 8-8 on the season, but they've had a hard time stringing together any kind of winning streak. Entering tonight, they've alternated wins and losses over their previous six games.

Tonight it's not going to get any easier, as the MLB odds show us. Rubby De La Rosa will take the bump for Arizona and he's been very hit or miss so far this season. He's yet to have a truly dominant showing, but he hasn't been getting hammered each time he takes the mound either. Still, De La Rosa owns a 6.00 ERA and 1.56 WHIP on the season, and those statistics are enough to make you question backing Arizona in this one.

That's even more true when you also consider this Pittsburgh team is starting to heat up. The Pirates have strung together a few wins in a row and will be eager to make life difficult on De La Rosa tonight. The right hander was tagged badly in his only home start of the young 2015 campaign, which came against San Francisco (eight hits and six earned runs allowed) in his season debut.

Pittsburgh Pirates (Burnett)
Unlike the Diamondbacks, who haven't been able to find consistency, the Pirates have been putting together sizable streak, both of the winning and losing variety. Right now they're on a hot run, having won three straight games ahead of tonight's game, which will be the second of the series.

With A.J. Burnett set to start, Pittsburgh has to be liking their chances. The righty has been excellent thus far, allowing a grand total of four earned runs in his first three outings. With a squeaky clean 2.00 ERA and good peripheral numbers, Burnett has been a rock near the top of the rotation for thie Pirates ballclub, and he should be up for the task of silencing an Arizona team that hasn't been doing much damage offensively.

While it's true Burnett struggled on the road this season, we saw what Gerrit Cole was able to do last night, and Burnett has stuff that can shut down teams no matter the circumstances. Will he be on his game tonight? We'll find out early.

MLB Pick
We have to roll with the safe play and back the Pirates on this occasion. The reason is rather simple.

When push comes to shove, we don't trust De La Rosa nearly as much as Burnett, who has really pitched well early on this season. Pittsburgh has the momentum on their side right now and they are the favorites for a reason. They've got some hitters that can do a lot of damage at the plate, namely McCutchen, Harrison, Marte and Walker, and we like their chances of a positive day at the plate against the shaky De La Rosa.

With your MLB picks, consider adding the Pirates on the moneyline, and don't be afraid to take a chance on the run-line either if you feel incredibly confident in their chances. The matchup favors Pittsburgh
