Chris Archer from Rays & Taijuan Walker from Mariners both can be lights out at times and neither offense is particularly terrorizing, is this total set too high for an MLB pick?

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Seattle Mariners
MLB odds makers have set the total for this game at 7 with some value like at Pinnacle +111. Taijuan Walker was listed as day to day but looks like he will start. Both starting pitchers along with their strong bullpens have me backing under the total for my MLB pick in this matchup.

Tampa Bay Rays
Chris Archer takes the mound for the Rays and comes in with 4.23 ERA and 1.51 whip with Tampa Bay hitting just .225 as a team which ranks last in the major leagues. Archer did not pitch all that well earlier this season in comparison to his 3.39 career ERA but in his last three starts he has been solid allowing just two earned runs in 18 innings off of just 11 hits. In the last three years against Seattle he has also been stellar with a 2.08 ERA spread out over five starts.

The pen for the Rays ERA is a bit high but they have done a nice job ranking forth in the American League in opponent batting average at .220. At the plate the Rays have been one of the worst in the American League with the worst team batting average, as mentioned, and the worst in hits per game. They also rank 26th in runs scored per game and 28th in BABIP. They could have some trouble today against Walker who has pitched well and a Seattle pen that is one of the best in the league.

Seattle Mariners
Taijuan Walker takes the mound with a 1.97 ERA and 1.03 whip with Mariners hitting .243 as a team ranking them 18th in the league. Although he is listed as day to day it seems like he will be good to go for this start and he has been excellent so far this season. In his six starts this season he has not given up more than two earned runs in any game and has only allowed six total earned runs at home in four starts spanning 24 innings. As well, the Mariner bullpen has also been excellent with a 2.45 ERA and leading the American League in opponent batting average at just .178 so far this season.

Seattle has some weapons at the plate but overall has just been mediocre this season. Currently they don’t rank in the top ten in any offensive categories and like Tampa Bay they have a low BABIP ranking 24th in the major leagues. Last year they really struggled against Archer garnering just eight hits in 15 innings in two starts with no earned runs. Don’t expect them to put up a tremendous offensive performance today.
