Powered by an Albert Pujols homer, the Angels opened with a win at Texas. Now their 5-game win streak is in jeopardy as underdogs on the MLB odds vs. Yu Darvish in Game 2.

Mike Trout and Albert Pujols homered to help the Los Angeles Angels top the Texas Rangers in their series opener on Friday. Texas opened as a small home favorite before the MLB odds swung in favor of the Angels, the final just scraping 'under' 9½.

Now the Rangers look to even the set Saturday with Yu Darvish delivering the game's first pitch at 7:15 PM (ET). Los Angeles counters with Jesse Chavez, chalking the Rangers at -172 with 8½ for the total.

Texas took two of three earlier this season in Anaheim, all three games going 'over' the totals. The Rangers just managed to win the season series from the Halos a year ago by going 6-3 in their home park, 'under' bettors emerging victorious in six of the games with another pushing a 9 run total.

Both Starting Pitchers Looking For 2nd-Straight Wins

Chavez lost one of those games to Texas in Anaheim back in mid-April, the defeat setting off a string of three consecutive setbacks for the right-hander. The Rangers sent him to the showers just an out into the fifth having plated five, and they've generally had their way with Chavez over the course of his career which has consisted of four starts and 13 relief appearances (42 IP. 6.00 ERA). The 33-year-old did end the skid Monday vs. the Blue Jays, picking up the win with six innings of 1-run baseball.

Darvish got a win in Anaheim a couple of weeks ago, working seven scoreless innings in the series finale and striking out a season-high 10. That's nothing new for the 5th-year hurler, Darvish owning an 8-2 record and 3.48 RTA over the course of 14 career starts. He's coming off another victory last Sunday when he went eight innings and allowed a pair of runs in a 5-2 decision to finish off a 4-game sweep of the Royals.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Adam Hamari, who called Clayton Kershaw's most recent start in San Francisco, is expected to be under the mask for the umpire crew tonight, both of his 2017 plate assignments falling well short of the totals. The Michigan native had two plate assignments in this park a year ago, and they each went 'over.'

A 60%-80% chance of thunderstorms is in the forecast into the evening hours, meaning Hamari and the other umps may have to work this one around some rain. The mid-60s are expected at game time with a 12-16 mph NW wind (left to right). My free baseball pick is on the final sailing past the number.
