L.A. Angels – Projected Win Total Un87 wins – 3rd in the AL West
When reviewing the betting odds, this is one of the hardest teams to figure. A lineup including Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton should be extremely productive. BUT, Pujols might be aging faster than what the Angels had hoped and Hamilton is showing increased signs his best days are going to be in left in Texas, not in Orange Country.
If the latter two players can return to form at least like they performed in the last season with their prior teams, there is hope for the Halos, with still productive players like Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar around and 3B David Freese could be a glue guy for manager Mike Scioscia.
The Angels are keeping their fingers crossed Jered Weaver regains his velocity, which will make his off-speed stuff tougher to hit and C.J. Wilson stepped up last season. However, the rest of the rotation is no certainty and the bullpen, well, that will have to be worked out since there is little trust Ernesto Frieri is a dependable closer.
Game Notes – Trout launched a grand slam off of James McDonald as the Angels bombed the Cubs 15-3. I did not see a radar gun, but Weaver’s velocity looked good as he threw mostly hard stuff in three good innings.
MLB Season Prospects – I will see each team one more time, but at the moment, I would not consider either team positively with MLB picks on win totals.
