The Los Angeles Angels have faced only one lefty starter this year and struggled to put up runs, but they should welcome the sight of 27-year-old Martin Perez tonight. Perez allowed 10 hits in 5.1 innings against Oakland and will face an Angels lineup that has had success against him. Five expected Angels starters have more than a .400 OBP against Perez in their careers, and that doesn’t include Mike Trout. Right-handers are a huge problem for Perez; they hit a robust .307 against him in 2017 over 147.1 innings pitched. The Angels can stack that side of the plate with no less than seven right-handed batters.

The Angels might need a cushion with how the Rangers have taken expected Los Angeles starter Tyler Skaggs to task. Skaggs has a career ERA of 6.57 and WHIP of 1.56 against Texas, with three of his four starts coming last season. The Rangers have five batters with OBP north of .400 against Skaggs. He pitched well in his first two starts, but his .267 BABIP suggests some negative regression is on its way compared to a .300 career mark. In my MLB picks, with nearly perfect weather in Texas and two teams that should put pressure on the starters early, I will take "over" the nine runs on the MLB odds board.

The Milwaukee Brewers are coming off of an exciting extra-innings win against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday -- well, as exciting as walking in the winning run can be. The cold-hitting Brewers finally heated up and put up 11 hits in the game. They’ll need to keep those good vibes going as they face Carlos Martinez, who pitched 8.1 innings against the Brewers while striking out 10 batters just a week ago. Martinez has an ERA of 2.35 against Milwaukee in his career even though many Milwaukee batters have had success against the right-hander. It’s quite confusing then for the moneyline on the MLB odds board to be moving so fast toward the Cardinals, now sitting at -173 at multiple books.

Brent Suter gets the start for the Brewers, and the soft-tossing lefty has had plenty of success against a majority of the Cardinals lineup. It hasn’t played out in an ERA (it sits at 7.20 over two starts), but what gives me pause in backing St. Louis blindly here is the .175 BAA the Cardinals have against lefty starters in their first two starts against them. The Brewers' bullpen is a nifty 2.32 on the road over 42.7 innings pitched, so even an abbreviated outing by Suter could be effective here. Being that Martinez has lost two of his last three starts against the Brewers straight up, I see value here in taking Milwaukee on the moneyline at plus odds as another MLB pick.
