After dropping two straight to the Dodgers, the Angels are in need of a victory Thursday night to earn a split in the MLB odds series between the I-5 rivals.

Dan Haren picked a great time to end his recent struggles. Almost untouchable for the first seven innings of Thursday's matchup with the Angels, Haren got help from the LA bullpen and just enough offense from his lineup to help the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory to get their 9-game road trip off to a winning start.

The defeat leaves the Angels in need of a dubya in Thursday's finale to gain a split in the interleague series, and current MLB odds suggest Game 4 will be the most evenly-matched tilt in the set. The 10:05 PM (ET) start in Anaheim features a pair of southpaws on the bump, Hyun-Jin Ryu and CJ Wilson, and it's Wilson who is drawing very light chalk in the -110 to -115 range at most sports books.

A 7.5 run total is appearing at most of those books charted by SBR's live baseball odds, though a few are listing 8.

Ryu Ready For 1st Career Appearance At The Big A
Save for one ugly start in Detroit, Ryu has been a model of consistency after an early-DL stint cost him about three weeks in May. The 27-year-old has made 14 starts since that point, allowing more than three runs in only two of them and helping the Dodgers to 10 wins in that stretch.  The latest dubya came last Saturday against the Cubs (7 IP, 2 ER), the only victory for LA in that series.

Ryu will be pitching in Anaheim for the first time, his only experience against the Angels coming last May at Chavez Ravine where he tossed the only shutout in his brief career.

Wilson just returned from the DL due to an ankle issue, and he probably wishes he had remained on the injured list after the Rays lit him up for six runs in less than two frames last Saturday in Tampa Bay.  The Newport Beach native has faced the Dodgers twice since joining the Angels, both starts in Los Angeles and totaling 11.2 IP with seven earned runs coming plateward.

Umpire Notes, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick
Brian Knight is in line to call balls and strikes in the series finale, and brings a level 11-11 O/U mark into the contest after a 4-3 Padres win over the Braves last Sunday that just skipped past a 6.5 run mark.  Five of his last eight plate assignments in Anaheim have cashed 'over' tickets.

Dodger pitchers have done a pretty good job keeping the 2nd-highest scoring team in the majors off the pay station, and Ryu is certainly a candidate to continue that trend. But can the LA lineup support him enough for the victory? I'm not so sure about that, and will ride the Angels on the moneyline in Game 4.

Make sure to check back this weekend when we will be following the next leg of the Dodgers' road trip in Milwaukee with previews and free MLB picks.
