The Washington Nationals land in a perfect situation Friday night, which will lead to a series-opening victory against the Philadelphia Phillies at Nationals Park.

The Big Three
Philadelphia finished August with a 14-13 record, which is important to consider when making your MLB picks, as it happened to be the club’s first winning month since Sept. 2012, while it has won 10 of its last 15 contests overall.

The Phillies are going to have a hard time continuing their recent success in this NL East matchup, as veterans Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley are a combined 10 for 68 with 22 strikeouts against tonight’s opposing starter.

MLB handicappers will also find that the franchise is 4-29 in its last 33 games as underdogs of +201 or higher.

Priced to Win
Washington returns home after going 4-5 on its recently completed nine-game road trip, as it looks to exact revenge from suffering a three-game sweep in the City of Brotherly Love from Aug. 25-27.

The Nationals have put together a tremendous 13-3 record following an off day during the 2014 campaign, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB odds, especially since they’ve gone 12-5 in their last 17 home games following a road trip of seven or more days.

It’s important to point out that the team has produced a perfect 5-0 mark as home favorites of -225 to -250, with the OVER going 4-0-1 in that situation.

Jerome Williams (5-5, 5.23 ERA) has gone 3-0 with a 2.03 ERA in four starts since becoming a member of the Phillies, as he comes off a 7-2 road victory over the New York Mets last time out.

The right-hander is 1-2 with a 5.89 ERA in 15 road games (three starts), with opposing hitters batting .300 against him (.266 at home).

In three career games (two starts) versus the Nationals, Williams has compiled a 0-1 record and 3.68 ERA.

Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg (11-10, 3.49 ERA) has led the squad to four consecutive victories, including a 3-1 road win over the Seattle Mariners last time out, as he surrendered just a single run and six hits over 7.2 innings of work.

The right-hander is 8-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 15 home appearances—striking out 120 batters in 98 combined frames.

Strasburg has registered a perfect 4-0 record and 0.87 ERA in his last four home efforts in this rivalry.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Nationals as one of their MLB predictions, as they’ve gone 24-5 in their last 29 games as a home favorite of -201 or higher.
