We browse the early odds board in search of MLB betting value on Thursday's card. Read on and find two picks on American League games that will maximize your profits before Thursday Night Football.

White Sox vs. Tigers

Right-hander James Shields (3-6, 5.40 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) takes the hill for the White Sox, looking to build on a solid performance against the Giants last Saturday, when he gave up one earned run on two hits (one home run) and two walks with five strikeouts in seven innings of a 13-1 win. Shields held the Tigers to one earned run in 5 1/3 innings in his only start against them this season.

Chad Bell (0-2, 5.79 ERA, 1.69 WHIP) starts for the Tigers, going for his first win of the season. Bell allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings to get a no-decision in a 5-4 loss against the Blue Jays last Saturday and he's just 0-1 with a 6.28 ERA in 10 home appearances (one start). I'm looking at the White Sox at +114 MLB odds as Shields is clearly the better pitcher.

Orioles vs. Yankees

Wade Miley (8-12, 4.96 ERA, 1.66 WHIP) will start for the Orioles as he tries to avoid his third straight loss. Miley gave up four earned runs on six hits (one home run) and three walks with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of a 5-0 loss against the Indians last Friday and he's 0-2 with a 4.63 ERA over his last two starts and 5-7 with a 5.27 ERA in 16 road starts.

Masahiro Tanaka (11-11, 4.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) will make his 28th start for the Yankees after allowing seven earned runs on eight hits (one home run) with no walks and seven strikeouts in four innings of an 11-5 loss against the Rangers last Friday. It was Tanaka's first time giving up more than four runs since the All-Star break and the fourth time he has allowed seven runs this season. Tanaka has been inconsistent this season, he can throw gems from time to time but his propensity for blowouts is concerning and it explains his high 4.82 ERA. Over 9 (-105) is the play when making MLB picks here.
