Disappointments in the NL East
The Phillies will host the Braves tonight at First Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, and the first pitch is slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to MLB odds, the Phillies are a -120 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.5. The Braves have gone 17-8 on the road versus the Phillies during the past 3-seasons, and that includes 6-1 in 2014.

Starting Pitchers for Tonight
The veteran right-hander Aaron Harang will make his final start of the 2014 campaign. Harang is in excellent form over his last 3-starts, posting an excellent 1.29 ERA, and compiling a 6:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Despite the form he’s shown in recent starts, Harang has gone a dismal 2-11 in his last 13 against the money line.

It’s been a shaky season for the Phillies veteran right-hander A.J. Burnett having gone 12-21 against the money, and posting a lofty 4.56 ERA in those 33-starts during this 2014 campaign. Burnett enters tonight in horrible form, going 0-3 against the money in his last 3-starts, compiling a large 7.87 ERA, and 1.88 WHIP.

Disappointing end to the Season for Atlanta
The Braves were in prime position heading into August, to vie for a postseason berth, and then the proverbial roof caved in. Atlanta entered the weekend having lost 14 of their last 17, and 17 of the last 22-games. They’ve scored 2-runs or less in 6 of their last 7, and 10 of their last 13-games.

NL East Cellar Dwellers
The Phillies have to make some tough decisions during the offseason, pertaining to their core group of veteran players, after finishing last in the National League East. Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, and Ryan Howard have been a dynamic trio for many years in Philadelphia. However, although each of them is still fairly productive for players at this stage of their careers, it’s time for the Phillies to rid themselves of some huge salaries, and start to rebuild.

MLB Betting Angle
When deciding on your MLB picks keep the following in mind; any National League money line home favorite of -110 or more, that has a starting pitcher with an ERA of 4.20 to 4.70, and that pitcher has a horrible 7.50 or more ERA during his past 3-starts, has gone 92-35 (72.4%) since 1997.
