The Los Angeles Angels will suffer a letdown after clinching the AL West division last night, which means the Seattle Mariners are the play with their ace on the mound Thursday.

Seattle suffered its 18th shutout loss of the season Wednesday, as it dropped a 5-0 decision to Los Angeles as +109 road underdogs, while going UNDER the betting total for the fourth time in six contests.

Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano has 55 multi-hit games in his first season outside of the Bronx, which is important to consider when making your MLB picks, especially since he’s a .395 career hitter against tonight’s opposing starter.

It’s important to point out that the franchise is 36-26 versus teams with a winning record during the 2014 campaign.

Los Angeles clinched its first division title in five years last night, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB odds, but the squad still has to focus on securing home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Angels have compiled a dominating 27-8 record since Aug. 10—providing them a three-game cushion over the Baltimore Orioles for the best record in the American League.

MLB handicappers will find that the Halos are 7-8 against the Mariners this season, but they still have an opportunity to captured the season series for an eighth consecutive year, as these two rivals close out the regular season on Sept. 26-28 in the Pacific Northwest.

Mariners starting pitcher Felix Hernandez (14-5, 2.14 ERA) is considered by man to be the favorite to win the 2014 AL Cy Young Award, but he hasn’t factored into the decision in his last two trips to the mound, including a 3-2 home defeat to the Oakland Athletics last week.

The right-hander is 5-2 with a 2.11 ERA in 15 road games—surrendering just five home runs in 102.1 combined innings.

Hernandez has produced a 4-1 record and 2.22 ERA in his last eight starts in this rivalry, including a 2-0 mark and 1.25 ERA in his three efforts this year.

Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver (17-8, 3.50 ERA) has won five of his last six decisions, including a 5-2 home victory over the Houston Astros last time out, as he allowed one run and four hits over seven frames.

The right-hander is 9-4 with a 2.60 ERA in 17 home games, with opposing hitters batting .212 against him (.264 on the road).

Weaver has registered a 1-1 record and 3.93 ERA in three starts versus the Mariners in 2014.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Mariners as one of their MLB betting picks, as they’ve gone 12-5 in their last 17 games following a loss with Hernandez on the hill.
