Jeff Samardzija is no stranger to pitching in the Windy City, which provides the Oakland Athletics a major edge over the Chicago White Sox Wednesday night.

Inconsistent Play
Oakland will try to win back-to-back games for the first time since Aug. 22-23, as it comes off an 11-2 victory over Chicago as -191 road favorites Tuesday, while going over the betting total for a second consecutive contest.

The Athletics pounded out 18 hits last night at U.S. Cellular Field, which is important to consider when making your MLB picks, especially since they were hitting .219 and averaging 3.3 runs in their previous 24 affairs.

It’s important to point out that the franchise is 5-1 as favorites of -175 or higher when playing away from the O.co Coliseum, with the 'over' cashing in five of those opportunities.

A Comedy of Errors
Chicago committed a season-high five errors last night, as manager Robin Ventura’s club is clearly looking ahead to the offseason due to its forgettable 64-80 record entering the third game of this American League series.

The White Sox have dropped three of five meetings against the Athletics this season, as they’ve been outscored by a 33-15 margin, with the 'over' going 4-1 in that situation.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the squad has produced a 20-43 mark in the month of September.

Athletics starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija (6-12, 3.21 ERA) will look to snap a personal two-game losing streak, which includes a 4-3 home defeat to the Houston Astros last time out, as he surrendered four runs and six hits over seven innings of work.

The right-hander is 2-6 with a 3.40 ERA in 13 road appearances, with opposing hitters batting .252 against him (.223 at home).

In six career appearances (three starts) versus the White Sox, Samardzija has compiled a 1-2 record and 1.24 ERA.

White Sox starting pitcher Chris Bassitt (0-1, 7.36 ERA) is scheduled to make his third professional appearance (second start), as he allowed one run on two hits in a single inning of relief versus the Minnesota Twins a week ago.

The 25-year-old missed the start of the season due to a broken throwing hand, but he owned a 1.56 ERA over six outings at Double-A Birmingham.

Bassitt has gone 22-10 with a 2.97 ERA over the course of his Minor League career after being selected in the 16th round of the 2011 draft.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Athletics on the run line as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve outscored opponents by a 44-15 combined margin in winning their last five games as road favorites of -175 or higher on the MLB odds.
