This revealing MLB handicapping article explains which starting pitchers have the advantage in the White Sox vs. Tigers and Cardinals vs. Cubs games.

White Sox vs. Tigers 1:05 PM ET
The White Sox Chris Sale has put together a terrific pitching resume in 2014, and has done so despite pitching for a downright lousy team, as those placing sports picks on Chicago can confirm. Sale has managed to go 15-10 against the money this season, posting an outstanding 2.20 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP, and compiling a near 6:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Sale has gone 1-1 versus the Tigers this season with a very good 2.57 ERA. It must be noted, Sale comes off a shaky start in his last outing versus the Royals, allowing 5 earned runs on 9-hits during a 6-2 loss.

The Tigers Jason Verlander is on the mound today and has really battled through a tough season by his standards. In 31-starts during the 2014 campaign, Verlander has posted a lofty 4.64 ERA, and has seen just 11 of those 31-starts stay under the total. However, he’s gone 3-0 against the money in his last 3, and posted a decent 3.60 ERA. The veteran right-hander has gone 3-1 against the money versus the White Sox this season, but posted a lofty 5.03 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in those outings.

Advantage: After yesterday's perfect handicapping report, I analyze this starting pitching matchup and find the betting edge to apply at a trusted sportsbook like 5Dimes with Sale of the White Sox over Verlander of the Tigers.

Cardinals vs. Cubs 8:05 PM ET
John Lackey of the Cardinals has been less than impressive over his last 4-starts, posting a lofty 4.50 ERA, and allowing 28-hits in 22.0 innings. Lackey has been far from dominating in 15-starts on the road in 2014, and that’s evidenced by his less than stellar 4.88 ERA in those outings.

The Cubs starter Jake Arrieta has been one of the few bright spots for the Cubs during this season. He’s been terrific at Wrigley Field in 2014, going 8-3 against the money, posting a superb 1.60 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP in those outings. The right-hander enters tonight in very good form over his last 3-starts, going 3-0 against the money, and with an impressive 1.27 ERA. Arrieta has 4-starts in his career versus the Cardinals, all of those came since 2013, and he’s compiled an excellent 1.21 ERA.

Advantage: Despite the huge disparity in the records of these two teams, the best MLB pick to make based on the starting pitching matchup goes to Arrieta of the Cubs over Lackey of the Cardinals.
