Our sports betting expert examines a pair of starting pitching matchups in tonight’s games between the Nationals/Mets and A’s/Mariners. This article is a must read before making your MLB picks.

Nationals vs. Mets 7:10 ET
The Nationals will send right-hander Doug Fister to the mound tonight. Fister is having a solid season going 15-7 against the money, with a 2.53 ERA, and a 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio. He broke out of a 3-start slump by turning in a gem in his last outing. In that start, he allowed 0 earned runs, on 2-hits, and in 7.0 innings of work during a 2-1 win over the Braves. Fister is 2-0 versus the Mets this season with a perfect 0.00 ERA.

The Mets go with Zack Wheeler on the hill this evening. Wheeler has put together a decent season with all considered, posting a very good 3.38 ERA in 29-starts. He enters tonight in good form over his last 3-starts, posting a stellar 2.55 ERA, and 1.19 WHIP. Wheeler has gone 1-2 against the money versus the Nationals this season with an average at best 4.34 ERA.

Advantage: I’m going to give a very slight betting edge in today's pitching report in this one to Doug Fister of the Nationals over Zack Wheeler of the Mets.

A’s vs. Mariners 9:10 ET
It’s become quite apparent that the A’s Sonny Gray has hit the proverbial wall that many a young pitcher endures at this time of the year. He’s gone 1-6 in his last 7 against the money with a lofty 5.32 ERA. Gray has managed to go 3-1 against the money versus the Mariners in 2014. However, that lone loss came on September 2nd when he allowed 6 earned runs in just 5.0 innings.

The Mariners send their ace Felix Hernandez to the mound for this vitally important game. “King Felix” is certainly one of the leaders in the American League Cy Young race by posting a terrific 2.12 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and compiling a better than 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio in 30-starts. The Mariners have gone 20-10 when Hernandez is their starting pitcher this season. He’s gone a perfect 5-0 against the money versus Oakland this season while posting an outstanding 1.91 ERA.

Advantage: If this pitching matchup was 2-months ago it would’ve been a much closer call. Unfortunately for Oakland that’s not the case. I give a huge betting edge to Felix Hernandez of the Mariners over Sonny Gray of the A’s, and recommend you do the same at a trusty sportsbook like 5Dimes.
