Battle of Two NL Playoff Contenders
The Brewers host the Giants on Tuesday at Miller Park in Milwaukee with the first pitch coming at 8:10 PM ET. According to MLB betting odds the Brewers are a -130 money line home favorite and the posted total is 8.0. Milwaukee is 4-0 in their last 4 home games versus the Giants, and 4 of the last 5 at Miller Park have gone over the total when facing San Francisco.

The Starting Pitchers
The Giants Tim Lincecum was having a nice comeback season after suffering through a couple of subpar campaigns, and then he hit a brick wall in his last 2-starts. In those 2-outing the Giants right-hander has been pummeled as evidenced by a monster 12.91 ERA and 2.22 WHIP. He’s managed to go 5-4 against the money on the road this season despite posting a lofty 5.44 ERA in those starts. The San Francisco veteran hurler has seen 6 of his last 8-starts go over the total when facing the Brewers. The Giants have gone under the total in just 6 of their last 29-games as a money line underdog of +110 to +150 when Lincecum is their starter.

The Brewers will counter with Joe Nelson who will be making just his 5th start of the season. Nelson will be pitching tonight on 8-days of rest, and based on recent performances he needed it. The Brewers hurler enters tonight in shaky form over his last 3-starts posting a lofty 5.71 ERA.

Giants are Road Warriors
Away games have been very kind to the Giants this season. They gone a stellar 32-21 (.604) in 53-games on the road including 8-3 since the all-star break. They’re coming off a 4-3 win at Citi Field on Monday afternoon, and completed that 4-game series against the Mets by going 3-1. Unfortunately the Giants have gone a dismal 4-17 in their last 21-games versus an opponent with a winning record.

Clinging to the NL Central Lead
The Brewers once very comfortable lead in the NL Central is now down to a slim 1.0 game margin over the Cardinals and just 1.5 over the Pirates. They have nobody to blame but themselves after going a miserable 10-19 in their last 29-games. They received a much needed day off on Monday after returning from a 6-game road trip in which they went 2-4. Milwaukee has gone over the total in 28 of their last 39 home games versus an opponent with a winning record.

Final Analysis
Neither one of these starting pitchers have been close to sharp in recent starts. All the signs point to this one being a high scoring affair and in my professional sports betting opinion there’s no need to overanalyze the situation. I’m sticking to just basic MLB betting principals in this one.
