Can Rich Strike duplicate his Kentucky Derby success with the pressure of being one of the race favorites? We preview the 2022 Belmont Stakes with a look at the odds and our top picks.

The last leg of the Triple Crown takes place this weekend with eight horses set to take the gates of Belmont Park.

Four horses will make their first start in this epic trilogy including the frontrunner, We the People. The field also includes Kentucky Derby winner, Rich Strike, who will make his first start since his longshot win at Churchill Downs at the Kentucky Derby.

Because Rich Strike did not race in the Preakness Stakes, there is no possibility of a Triple Crown winner.

Much like the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, you won’t find odds on many of the most popular sportsbooks. Instead, you will have to turn to sites like,, or

You can find the running positions of each of the horses competing as well as their odds on the official Belmont Stakes website.

Here are my outright picks for the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.

Belmont Stakes Odds Analysis

Despite his thrilling win at the Kentucky Derby, Rich Strike is not the odds on favorite to win at Belmont. At +350, he finds himself behind We the People, who will be making his first Triple Crown start, and Mo Donegal who placed fifth in the Kentucky Derby.

Further down the list, Skippylongstocking, the fifth-place finisher from the Preakness comes in at +20000 along with Golden Glider at the same odds. He will appear in his first Triple Crown race.

Belmont Stakes Picks

  • We the People (+200)
  • Mo Donegal (+250)
  • Creative Minister (+600)

Who Will Win the Belmont Stakes?

We the People (+200)

This three-year-old colt has won three of his four career races including a wire-to-wire victory on this very track. In the Peter Pan last month, We the People fired from the gates, held the lead, then broke away from the pack to win the race.

Strong finishes are his specialty as all of his wins have included him opening up his lead down the backstretch. We the People will ride from the first post on Saturday, a position that has produced the most winners in the history of the Belmont Stakes.

We the People's worst finish was a seventh-place showing in the Arkansas Derby. He ran against the likes of Cyberknife and Secret Oath, both of which ran the Kentucky Derby. This will be We the People’s first race in the Triple Crown.

Mo Donegal (+250)

The son of Uncle Mo has three wins in his six career starts including one at this track. He won his first of back-to-back victories in October on the 1 1/16 mile distance.

Mo Donegal's first Triple Crown appearance resulted in a fifth-place finish at the Kentucky Derby. Of the four horses that placed above him, only Rich Strike is participating in this race.

Creative Minister (+600)

While not the longest of shots, Creative Minister deserves consideration. He finished no worse than third in his four starts which include two wins.

The young colt showed speed in Monday's workout session clocking a half-mile speed of 50.33. He'll start from the fifth post which is tied for second in terms of winning horses at the Belmont Stakes.
