Ryder Cup Picks 2023: Tournament Winner & Prop Predictions for Team USA vs. Team Europe

Our 2023 Ryder Cup picks were targeting an upset at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy but the odds flipped and Team Europe now heads into the tournament as the consensus betting favorite by the Ryder Cup odds from our best golf betting sites.
Team USA won two of the last three editions of the Ryder Cup but hasn't won back-to-back competitions since 1991 and '93. However, its victory at Whistling Straits in 2021 came by a 10-point margin.
American Brooks Koepka, a five-time major champ, was the only player from the LIV Golf Invitational Series selected by captains Zach Johnson and Luke Donald to Team USA or Team Europe. That leaves Ryder Cup staples such as Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia, and more looking on as both sides usher in a new wave of young talent.
My Ryder Cup picks are favoring the new additions to Team Europe as it looks to turn the tide on its shocking 10-point loss in Wisconsin two years ago.

Ryder Cup picks: Tournament winner
Europe (+130 via DraftKings)
We got in early with Europe available at +130 odds. That even seemed like we were buying in late and getting a poor number, but now with the Europeans set as consensus betting favorites, we're laughing and can still double down on the widely available even-money odds.
Norwegian Viktor Hovland has soared to fourth in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) with his win in the Tour Championship, and Swede Ludvig Aberg, a captain's pick, rapidly rose to No. 80 in the OWGR with three straight top-10 finishes, including victory in the Omega European Masters.
This is without mentioning Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, who bring Europe to having three of the top four golfers in the OWGR. Now the two veterans of the European squad, the two will be highly keen to erase the memories of that 19-9 loss at Whistling Straits. With McIlroy and Rahm leading the way, it'll surely aid the transition for the younger European side. Aberg is making his debut in the Ryder Cup at 23 years of age, while Hovland and Shane Lowry are each making their second appearance, and first in Europe.
Robert MacIntyre, Nicolai Hojgaard, and Sepp Straka are other fresh faces who don't still carry the stink of the 2021 Ryder Cup performance on American soil. Roll with the new European guard for the plus-money payout.
Ryder Cup picks: Props
Viktor Hovland to be top combined points scorer (+1200 via FanDuel)
Hovland enters his second Ryder Cup leading all players in the competition with 3.43 true strokes gained per round across his last 20 measured rounds on either side of the Atlantic. The Norwegian went back-to-back to win the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship, and claimed the 2022-23 FedEx Cup. He followed that with a fifth-place showing in the DP World Tour's BMW PGA Championship as his final Ryder Cup tune-up. He's the hottest golfer on the planet.
American and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the consensus betting favorite in this market with odds as low as +700. The former Masters champ is making just his second appearance in this competition, and while he went 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in his singles match two years ago, his woeful putting in 2023 was one of the biggest stories of the PGA Tour season. He enters this tournament with 0.64 strokes lost per round with his putter across his last 20 rounds and his second straight blown starting lead in the Tour Championship (to a member of Team Europe) remains fresh in his mind.
That's a hard pass for me at 7-1 under the pressures of Ryder Cup competition in enemy territory.
Looking strictly at the European side with McIlroy and Rahm next on this overall oddsboard, expect Donald to use his two top stars against Scheffler in alternating matches. While their records may split, this strategy would leave Hovland free to take advantage of the next tier of Americans.
Like how Europe's odds to win the tournament shortened in the days leading up to Day 1, Hovland is now down to a best price of +1000 to be the tournament's leading point scorer. That's the lowest I'd recommend an investment if you didn't grab the +1200.
Top captains pick/wildcard: Sam Burns (+1400 via Caesars)
I liked American Sam Burns to be my pick in this market when seeing the widely available +1100 odds but this market-high price point of +1400 from Caesars seals the deal. Burns won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in 2023, eliminating the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay en route to his biggest PGA Tour victory to date.
Back in the match play format for his first Ryder Cup appearance, Caesars is giving Burns a share of the second-longest odds on the board to be the highest scoring captains pick.
Americans Brooks Koepka and Collin Morikawa, and Europeans Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Aberg are commonly the favorites in this market across our best sportsbooks. However, look for them to be used against each other by their respective captains, allowing Burns to succeed against the bottom end of the European team.
Top European rookie: Ludvig Aberg (+190 via Caesars)
I touched on Aberg's form and what he could mean to Europe's overall chances in the Ryder Cup above. Naturally, it's only fitting to get some action on him directly, and we have Caesars to thank for an out-of-line price point of +190 odds to be Europe's top rookie point-getter.
bet365 has the market-low odds of +115 with each of our other top three books at +160 or +165.
