Corales Puntacana Championship key stats
- Good drive percentage
- Strokes gained: off-the-tee
- Par-5 scoring
- SG: approach
- Proximity: 200-225 yards
Corales Golf Course is a long par-72 venue but this event has been a scoring fest with 21 golfers finishing double digits under par last year in Chad Ramey's one-stroke victory over Alex Smalley and Ben Martin.
Much of the length is superficial, coming via extended par 5s with two of the four on the course playing longer than 600 yards. The four par 5s still played as the four easiest holes on the course last year. All four par 3s also exceed 200 yards in length and all four played over par in 2022.

Corales Puntacana Championship picks and predictions
Akshay Bhatia (+3500 via PointsBet)
Bhatia opened with odds as high as +5000 via FanDuel as a late alternate into this event. While the best of the number is long gone, the +3500 via PointsBet and DraftKings is still a great bet next to the new +2200 via FanDuel.
I consider FanDuel's odds the most accurate for Bhatia in this very weak field. He enters this week at No. 282 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) off of a missed cut in the Valspar Championship but that followed a runner-up finish in the Puerto Rico Open, against a field much more comparable to this one in the Dominican Republic. He also opened 2023 with back-to-back top-10 finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Bhatia is 13th on the PGA Tour this season in proximity from 200-225 yards, 12th in SG: approach, and 37th par-5 scoring. Most importantly, he's second on Tour, and first in this field in good drive percentage. It's the proximity ranking I'm valuing most as that's also applicable to the abundance of long par 3s.
I'd make this bet down to +3000.
Tyler Duncan (+4000 via DraftKings)
Getting this number on Duncan is an indictment of the quality of this field.
Duncan is 227th in the OWGR off of his missed cut at the Valspar Championship. However, that came just two weeks after a third-place finish in a weaker field at The Honda Classic. He also made the cut in the elevated WM Phoenix Open and Players Championship.
Duncan's lone professional victory came in the PGA Tour's RSM Classic in November 2019. That was in a playoff over former major winner Webb Simpson. That means something in this field of thin resumes.
Again, we're getting some value with these odds relative to what FanDuel is offering. The market-low price of +3100 for Duncan to win this event makes this +4000 ticket much easier to swallow, but I wouldn't go lower.
MJ Daffue (+5500 via BetMGM)
Daffue enters this week at No. 152 in the OWGR and may be the best value on the board. He has made the cut in four straight events, including his T-19 finish in the Valspar Championship last week. The South African averaged 0.81 SG: off-the-tee amid the windy conditions in Florida but he also gained over a stroke on the greens per round. That budding confidence with the flat stick can be a difference maker against soft competition.
For the 2022-23 season, Daffue is 19th on Tour in SG: off-the-tee and an adequate 75th in par-5 scoring average at 4.59.
Corales Golf Course course profile
Par: 72
Length: 7,670 yards
Greens: Paspalum
Architect: Tom Fazio
Corales Golf Course is one of the longest regular venues on the PGA Tour. The closing three-hole stretch is known as the Devil's Elbow and consists of a 214-yard par 3 sandwiched by par 4s of 461 and 501 yards. All three holes played well over par last year.
Accuracy isn't necessarily needed off the tee, but winds can complicate matters, especially alongside the six holes that run along the ocean.
