Both Milwaukee and Los Angeles just won four-game series and will open up a four contest set starting on Monday night as the late game on ESPN. The Dodgers are back home after winning three series on a 10-game road trip, with the first one a series victory over the Brewers. After floundering for weeks and falling out of first place in their division, the Brew Crew have taken consecutive series over Washington and at San Francisco. The MLB odds have Los Angeles favored at Chavez Ravine, where they are 28-24 (-15.8 units). Let's break this matchup down and make a choice for MLB picks.

Pitching Matchup

Milwaukee rookie Freddy Peralta (4-2, 3.74 ERA) is coming off his worst outing as a big leaguer in 7-3 loss to Washington in which allowed all the runs. What harmed Peralta was the four walks in six innings and being taken out of the park twice. He's only allowed 22 hits in just over 43 innings while striking out 57. However, in his most recent starts opposing hitters are making him throw more strikes and not swinging at balls, and he's not fanning as many batters while handing out more free passes.

Nobody questioned Kenta Maeda's (7-5, 3.27) ability to pitch, other than maybe him in the majors. His first two years, Maeda was known for his inconsistency, brilliant sometimes, very hittable others. Since being used in the bullpen in last year's postseason, he learned to trust his fastball more, which has caused him to stop nibbling as much. His overall numbers are not substantially different, but he's become a more reliable hurler start to start.

After a really bad start, the Dodgers' bullpen is returning to their previous form and Milwaukee's has been stellar all season.

Launch Angles Working For These Teams

In today's baseball, it's about swinging hard and with an upper cut, and in the National League the Dodgers and the Brewers are two of the best at executing this. L.A. is first in home runs in the Senior Circuit the Crew are tied for third. Adding Mike Moustakas should only enhance the Milwaukee's style of play, which is largely all or nothing, averaging an NL run of the mill 4.4 RPG.

Because the Dodgers strike out less and walk more, they have more runners on a consistent basis, which is why they in turn average 4.8 RPG. This is as treacherous a lineup as there is in MLB with eight players having at least a dozen home runs.

Who Is Monday's Winner?

In this matchup of playoff contenders, the Dodgers have the look of a winner. They are on a 17-4 tear in Game 1s of series and are 16-5 at Dodger Stadium following a road trip of at least seven days. Those wearing Dodger Blue are 23-8 vs. RH starters, which includes a 6-0 mark against right-handers when playing at home. Finally, for good measure the Dodgers and Maeda are 9-3 at home vs. winning teams.
