It’s a tale of what might have been for the Rockies and Diamondbacks who are each stumbling to the finish line as their final series of the season continues in Phoenix.

2018 MLB Record: 82-80-1 (+10.50 units, 1 pending)

Colorado at Arizona

Saturday, 8:10 p.m. ET

Free MLB Pick: Diamondbacks RL

Best Line Offered: BetOnline

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3386226, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,238,93,349,43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

The NL West was there for either Colorado or Arizona to take this season, but they both frittered their chances away, and instead, neither appears headed to the postseason as even a wild card. Their final series of 2018 continues Saturday in Phoenix where the Rockies turn to Antonio Senzatela (5-6, 4.81) against Diamondbacks southpaw Patrick Corbin (11-6, 3.09).

Both squads took Thursday off in advance of this set, Colorado having dropped three in a row to fall 2½ behind the Dodgers in the division and 1½ back of St. Louis for the second NL wild card. Arizona has just about exhausted its chances sitting 3½ behind the Rockies, Bookmaker listing the D-backs as -110 home chalk in Friday’s clash.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Fight Till’ The Finish. 😤 #LetsGo pic.twitter.com/aqWtUc9Eb6
— Archie Bradley (@ArchieBradley7) September 20, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

Senzatela Seeking 1st Career Win Vs. Snakes

The good news – perhaps, the only good news – for Colorado is shortstop Trevor Story did not sustain significant damage to his right elbow this past week. Story, second on the team with 33 HR, remains day-to-day. Senzatela’s previous two starts against Arizona both came against Zack Greinke, and both went into the Venezuelan’s loss column with eight runs allowed in 11.1 combined innings. He also suffered defeat out of the bullpen against the Diamondbacks in March, the 23 year old holding a lifetime 7.65 ERA vs. Arizona (22.1 IP).

It has been a September to forget for the Diamondbacks who are 5-13 this month, and a second half to forget for AJ Pollock who is batting .208 with 3 HR since the end of July. Corbin lost for the first time in four September starts his last time out against the Cubs, the lefty allowing three runs over six frames. The New York native has struck out at least seven in each of his 11 second-half assignments, and the D-backs are 2-1 in his three games against the Rockies this season, Corbin pitching to a 3.86 ERA in those efforts.

Season Series Level Overall & In Phoenix

The season series stood even heading into Friday’s battle, the Diamondbacks winning six of the first seven, and the Rockies taking seven of the last nine with the six played in Arizona halved. Going back to last October’s NL Wild Card clash, the best way to play the baseball odds on the scoreboard at Chase Field has been the ‘over’ (5-2).

Saturday might be the official first day of autumn, but the thermometer is still reaching triple digits in Phoenix, so expect the Chase lid to be shut. I’m looking for Arizona to get to Zenzatela early and build a big enough lead to support a run-line play for my free MLB pick.
