In the late morning and early afternoon, everyone can look in on The Bahamas. In the evening, the scene will shift to a different ocean and the Hawaiian islands. Which teams will enjoy their business trips, and which fans will enjoy their bowl vacations?

Bahamas Bowl: Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs. Western Michigan Broncos
This is a game in which Western Michigan should definitely be able to control the action. The Broncos should be happy, for one thing, that coach P.J. Fleck, rumored to be a coach who will climb the ladder in the near future, has stuck around in Kalamazoo with the Broncos. The “Row The Boat” slogan Fleck has used to motivate his team has paid off in the form of consecutive bowl appearances. The Broncos are definitely in the midst of a good and healthy period as a program. They didn’t win their division in the Mid-American Conference this season, but they did beat Toledo on the road to knock the Rockets out of the division championship and help Northern Illinois to win it. Western Michigan played a major role in shaping the MAC’s champion for the season. They took some punches, but also handed them out.

Middle Tennessee was not as central to the flow of the season as Western Michigan was. The Conference USA season involved two games which decided each division, the East and the West. Western Kentucky played Marshall for the East title, and Louisiana Tech played Southern Mississippi in the West. Middle Tennessee wasn’t able to be a part of that process. The Blue Raiders were okay, but they didn’t leave as large a footprint as Western Michigan. It would be a surprise if MTSU knocked off the Broncos here. Take WMU with your college football picks.

Hawaii Bowl (Honolulu): Cincinnati Bearcats vs. San Diego State Aztecs
The key point to make here is that Cincinnati offensive coordinator Eddie Gran is being seriously considered for the open spot as the offensive coordinator at Kentucky, following the announcement that Shannon Dawson has been dismissed by head coach Mark Stoops. That kind of cloud, hovering over a team, is exactly the kind of distraction a team does not need at bowl time. San Diego State head coach Rocky Long, who has coached a long time in the Mountain West Conference dating back to his days at New Mexico, is an extremely effective defensive strategist. He had been San Diego State’s defensive coordinator before taking over for former head coach Brady Hoke. The matchup between Cincinnati’s offense and San Diego State’s defense is the most important one in this game. If you were to evaluate which strategist is more likely to do well and have the best plan in place, San Diego State and Long should have the advantage over Cincinnati and Eddie Gran. Take the Aztecs on the college football odds.
