Everyone of you reading this has heard about the ills of betting parlays, which ultimately contribute to offshore sportsbooks making large profits and why Vegas books keep expanding more and more.
Yet that does not stop hardly anyone from plowing ahead and making parlay bets anyway. You have read or watched enough educational videos to know the reasons not to do, but we here at sportsbookreview.com are not your parents, your an adult, you make your decisions how to use your money. Our role is to hopefully educate you to make the best choice on what you are going to do and try to place you in the best position to in this case beat the college football odds at say Bovada's always entertaining entries.
Here are three parlay possibilities to consider for college football picks on the first big football Saturday.
2-Team Parlay - Northwestern & Southern Miss
There has been a steady flow of sharp money action on Western Michigan, who is the preseason pick to win the MAC this season. P.J. Fleck has turned this program around and now has upperclassmen that have matured and are expecting to win. With this, Northwestern has come down from -6.5 point favorite to as low as -4.5 at some books. While the Broncos are a good team, they are not facing Purdue, coach Pat Fitzgerald has a solid program and while not known as a great home favorite, good spot for 'Cats at a reasonable price.
Southern Miss made C-USA title game last year and are among the favorites to return and possibly capture it this time. Having new coach makes proposition a little dicey, but not as pressure-packed as it is for Mark Stoops of Kentucky. The hot seat is smoldering in Lexington and you have to think if Appalachian State can push Tennessee to OT, Southern Miss can do the same against lesser Wildcats club at +6.5 or +7. If correct, should pay 13 to 5.
3-Team Parlay - Oklahoma, North Carolina, and LSU/Wisconsin UNDER
Houston enters the year with a great deal of promise as AAC champions and Peach Bowl conquest of Florida State. Speed wise, the Cougars can run with Oklahoma, but what they lack is the physical size and this will show up in the second half where the Sooners pull away for the cover.
North Carolina is at a disadvantage having to play Georgia in the Georgia Dome, but the Bulldogs have a new coach in Kirby Smart and there are many questions on both sides of the ball coming into this contest. The Tar Heels, further along, have structure for explosive offense and defense continues to improve under coach Larry Fedora. North Carolina could well win this one at +2.5 or three.
With how Wisconsin and LSU can line up and play defense, little wonder the total dipped from 48 to 44.5. No doubt much of the value has been sucked dry on playing the UNDER, yet it is not easy to find a reason to wager the other way. Hit this parlay and you are looking at 6 to 1 payout.
4-Team Money Line Parlay
The payout on this parlay is not as large, but the risk is reduced. Here we are after reasonable money lines in which we just need the teams to win. In this case, here are four clubs who I feel confidently they can do that job Saturday.
Northwestern - UTEP - Clemson - Alabama
If correct, a $100 bet currently should pay $207 and change. None too shabby.
