Week 2 of the NCAAF season serves up two more two potential trap games Saturday involving two talented and highly ranked Big Ten teams who may be caught looking forward on the schedule.

NCAAF Capper Week 1 Picks Record: 2-2-0
NCAAF YTD Picks Record: 2-2-0

Rutgers (1-0 SU/ATS) at No. 5 Ohio State (1-0 SU/ATS)

Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network)

Free NCAAF Pick: OSU -33 -115

Best Line Offered: BetOnline

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3448307, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,1275,238,169,19], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Why it’s a trap: With TCU (Sept. 15, at AT&T Stadium, Arlington) up next week in a huge non-conference game, the Buckeyes come in off a game where 108 points were scored in a battle of “OSU’s” (OHIO ST 77 ORE ST 31; OHIO ST -40) and without suspended head coach Urban Meyer (42-37-1 ATS), this seems pretty trappy for QB Dwayne Haskins (22/30, 313, 5 TDs, INT vs ORE ST) and the Buckeyes.

OSU has outscored RUTGERS 123-0 L2 meetings

OSU 4-0 ATS L4 vs RUTGERS

OSU has outscored RUTGERS 228-14 L4 meetings

But fear not Ohio State backers (OSU -31½ Open, BetOnline), because despite having to lay more lumber than Paul Bunyan at The Horseshoe on a normal Saturday, this team will be motivated for another 60+ point performance — and could again possibly go "over" the total themselves (62-63½ vs. ORE ST) — and have the skill position blurs like RB Mike Weber (20, 186, 3 TDs vs ORE ST), J.K. Dobbins and Master “make‘em say UGH” Teague and WRs Terry McLaurin (4, 121, 2 TDs), K.J. Hill and Austin Mack who want the football in their hands so they can dart up-field with it.

Expect points in quick bursts, like the Buckeyes always do about this time at home, and for Ryan Day to have more fun roaming the sidelines in Columbus in Urban’s stead just like he did in Week 1 against the Beavers where Ohio state scored 21, 21, 14 and 21 points in the four quarters of play (35-15 1st downs, 721 total yards).

RUTGERS 3-15 SU in Big Ten under head coach Chris Ash

RUTGERS outgained 4 opponents in L25 games (KS, MORG ST, NORF ST, TEX ST)

RUTGERS 4-0 ATS in its Big Ten road games in 2017 (NEB, ILL, MICH, PSU)

In its Week 1 opener, Rutgers got the money in a 35-7 romp over Texas State in Piscataway (RUT -16½, 48) in a game where the Scarlet Knights scored in every quarter (7, 14, 7, 7). But going from facing the Sun Belt’s Bobcats at home to playing a top-5 team like the Buckeyes at home is like the difference between getting fish from the grocery store or having to actually go out in Mother Nature and “fish” for your meal in that one action (buying your dead fish) guarantees you will eat while the other one (fishing for live fish) could result in a sad trip on a rough lake resulting in a trip home to the Garden State with no fish in your cooler and only bitterness to eat.

PREDICTED FINAL SCORE: Ohio State 63, Rutgers 0

No. 11 Michigan State (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) at Arizona State (1-0 SU/ATS)

Saturday, 10:45 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Free NCAAF Picks: ASU +6½ -110, Over

Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3448259, "sportsbooksIds":[19,1275,238,169,1096], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Why it’s a trap: Because MSU is a little bit (over-) ranked at No. 11, while ASU is unranked and at home in suburban Phoenix and probably ready to pull off the Saturday night upset in a spot where the Spartans’ players Circadian Rhythms could be an issue with Sparty playing in the ET and the Sun Devils in PT, meaning a 3-hour body clock difference and a game that will end well after midnight and maybe even 1 a.m. (ET) for this team of still young men which also has to travel 1,939 miles and sleep in strange beds in their first trip to the Grand Canyon State.

And MSU can expect temperatures in the 90s in Tempe with a current forecast of 85 degrees after a day’s high of 105. Hello Monsieur Summer. We see that you’re still around. Thank you so much for your service this season. We have been baked enough, brother. Now please go home. Quickly. We don’t need to cook eggs on hot pavement.

MICH ST longest RS travel game since @ ORE, Week 2 in 2014

MICH ST went from 3-9 SU in 2016 to 10-3 SU in 2017

MICH ST 1-7 ATS as non-conference favorites of <17 points

So this is a trap for MSU that might bite with ASU having nothing to lose and getting a chance for its first signature win under new head coach Herm Edwards and the Pac-12 wanting to rebound after a miserable Week 1 and having the vehicle here with this Big Ten-Pac-12 showdown in the Sonoran Desert.

In Week 3, Sparty will travel to Bloomington, IN to face the Hoosiers in their first Big Ten game, so surviving Utah State in Week 1 at home (MSU 38 UTAH ST 31), traveling out west here and then having to worry about possibly (also) getting upset against the Hoosiers seems like an edge for ASU. And the Spartans' No. 11 ranking puts more of a target on their green-and-white shoulder-padded backs at this point in the season and despite returning so many starters, MSU seems more like a 20th-ranked team and not a top-10 one. Time will tell.

ASU 8-3 ATS L11 overall

ASU 120th in FBS in passing yards allowed in 2017 (128th in 2015, 2016)

ASU-MSU 1-1 series all-time (MSU 12 ASU 3 in 1985, ASU 20-17 in 1986)

QB Manny Wilkins (16/24, 237, 4 TDs), RB Eno Benjamin (16, 131, TD), WRs N’Keal Harry (6, 140, 2 TDs) and Isiah Floyd (9, 79, TD) and the Sun Devils scored in every quarter (14, 14, 14, 7) on Saturday night in Tempe, but getting points against a tough Spartans defense will be much harder than putting up points against the Roadrunners, although upstart Utah State — who you want to back at the betting windows in Week 2 at NMS — managed to score 31 on QB Brian. Lewerke (23/33, 287, 2 TDs, INT), RB LJ Scott, (23, 84), Cody White (5, 70 TD vs. USU), Felton Davis (3, 69, TD) and Darrell Stewart Jr. (7,55) and the Spartans.

Edwards actually deemed his new team’s play “sloppy” against UTSA, so expect a more focused effort here in a chance to win over their new leader’s heart by finding a way to knock off MSU with Benjamin and Harry probably being a big part of the plot in a game where backing the "over" when the totals come out is advised (and officially picked) if it’s set at 62 lower.

PREDICTED FINAL SCORE: Michigan State 33, Arizona State 30
