Coming off their one and only loss of the season, the Utah Utes are 24 point favorites on the college football odds board to get back into the win column vs. Oregon State.

Their perfect season went out the window a week ago, the 42-24 upset loss at Southern Cal plummeting the Utah Utes down 10 spots in the latest AP rankings. Kyle Whittingham's crew still has a lot to play for, however, and the Utes just may take their frustration over the setback to the Trojans out on the Oregon State Beavers who come to Salt Lake City this Saturday.

Kickoff at Rice-Eccles Stadium is set for 7 PM (ET), the Pac-12 Network providing the broadcast. 5Dimes initially sent Utah out at -22½, those college football odds now at -24. The scoreboard hurdle was originally set in the 55½ to 56½ range, but the movement has been on a downward slope since then and presently sits at 54.

These teams first started meeting on a gridiron back in 1931, playing sporadically from then until Utah joined the Pac-12 in 2011 with a couple of 20+ year gaps in that span. The Beavers hold an 11-7-1 advantage all-time in the series, and they stand level at 2-2 as conference opponents.

The outright winner has covered each of the four Pac-12 meetings, including last year's 29-23 win by Utah in double overtime at Corvallis. Held to just over 60 yards in the air, the Utes used a bruising ground game led by Devontae Booker to pull out the victory. The extra two OT periods weren't enough to help the final score past a 52½ point total, the third 'under' in their four clashes as league foes.

Beavers Yet To Cover A Conference Game
A longtime assistant at Utah, Gary Anderson is still looking for his first Pac-12 win at Oregon State (2-5 straight up, 1-6 against the spread) after succeeding Mike Riley last December. The Beavers were close to picking that up for Anderson last week at Colorado, but they couldn't muster up enough offense to drop the 17-13 decision as 1 point road favorites as the Buffaloes ended their 14-game conference losing skid.

Not only was it Oregon State's 4th-straight loss on the league fixture, it was also the fourth consecutive game OSU couldn't send its backers to the window with a college football odds ticket. The Beavers have been able to generate a pretty fair running game along the way, freshman quarterback Seth Collins the biggest factor in why they're 41st in the country averaging nearly 190 yards a game on the ground. Collins has not complemented that with much through the air, Oregon State near the bottom of FBS teams in passing offense.

The Beavers have done a good job defending the pass along the way, but they'll likely be without senior cornerback Larry Scott who was one of only two returning defensive starters that Anderson had to work with. Scott injured his ankle in the loss to Washington State two weeks ago and is questionable to return against Utah.

Utes Coming Off Embarrassing Performance At USC
Utah (6-1 SU, 4-3 ATS) came close to a misstep a few weeks ago when the Utes relied on six Cal turnovers to escape with a 30-24 win over the Golden Bears. Southern Cal wasn't going to make it that easy for Utah last week when it was the Utes' turn to give the pigskin away.

The Trojans picked off four passes, three by Cameron Smith who returned one for six points, and there were breakdowns in Utah pass coverage all evening as USC built a 28-17 halftime advantage. Travis Wilson entered the game having thrown only three picks all season before seeing four of his 36 aerials wind up in Trojan hands. The Utes were +12 in the turnover department before the loss, and still rank seventh in the country at +8.

Starting at five o'clock local time, the forecast calls for a few clouds and the thermometer in the hupper-50s, low 60s with a 10-15 mph blow from the southeast. I'm going to run with the 'under' for my free college football pick as the Utes grab a 30-10 win.
