For either Auburn or Arkansas, a disappointing season will continue this Saturday when the two meet in Fayetteville where the Razorbacks are college football odds favorites.

A couple of teams at the bottom of the SEC West battle each other in one of the early games on Saturday's college football betting card, and one of the squads is desperate for a win to keep its bowl season hopes alive.

The noon broadcast between the Auburn Tigers vs. Arkansas Razorbacks will be carried by the SEC Network, and despite a 2-4 record, Arkansas is favored on its home turf in Fayetteville college football odds began with Arkansas at -4, that number now -5½ at 5Dimes. The total is up a bit from where it started to 50½.

Saturday marks the 25th meeting between the teams, and 24th-straight year the Hogs and Tigers have tangled.  Their only matchup outside the SEC came in the 1984 Liberty Bowl, a 21-15 win for Auburn.  The Tigers own a 13-10-1 all-time advantage and have won the last two, covering the spread as favorites each time.

Last year's 45-21 decision was the season-opener for both schools, and the final stopped a three year run for the 'under.' The game was knotted 21 apiece at the half before Auburn scored 24 unanswered points in the final 30 minutes, the War Eagle ground attack rumbling for 302 yards against the Razorbacks.

Can Auburn Get Offense Going Against Hogs?
Auburn (4-2 straight up, 1-5 against the spread) has strung together a couple of less-than-impressive wins since losing successive games at LSU and home against Mississippi State. The Tigers finally picked up their first cover at Kentucky in a Thursday night tussle last week, closing as 2-point favorites and holding off the Wildcats, 30-27.

Their backers had dropped the cash in each of the first five games, three times as double-digit favorites. Auburn did win those contests  against Louisville, Jacksonville State and San Jose State, but all three did expose what has proven to be a rather leaky defense that ranks 94th in the nation allowing 426 yards per game. The Tigers are even worse against the run, surrendering nearly 198 yards a contest to sit 102nd nationally.

Gus Malzahn and his staff have haven't found the going much easier on offense where the Tigers are 98th in the land churning out 354 yards per game. They began the year with Jeremy Johnson under center, but six picks in the first three games sent the junior to the bench. Sean White has started the last three games and is expected to do the same this Saturday, but while the freshman has done a better job with just one pick in his three contests, he also has yet to throw a touchdown pass to leave Auburn 89th in scoring (35.5 ppg).

Good Chance Of Sloppy Turf At Razorback Stadium
Arkansas (2-4 SU, 3-3 ATS) has had two weeks to recover from its latest setback, a 27-14 setback at Alabama in Week 6. Bret Bielema's bunch hung tight with the Crimson Tide and actually held the lead late in the third quarter before the game got away from them. The Razorbacks did manage to cover the spread as 15½ point underdogs, their second consecutive win against the college football odds following a Week 5 upset in Knoxville where they pulled off a 24-20 triumph getting 5½ at the closing bell.

A loss Saturday will mean the Hogs have to win their final four games against FBS teams just to become bowl eligible. Arkansas will host FCS Tennessee-Martin next week before closing with back-to-back toad games at Ole Miss and LSU followed by home tilts vs. Mississippi State and Missouri.

The weather isn't going to be pleasant if the current forecast holds. Four days in advance of the boot, there's an 80% chance of thunderstorms in the Fayetteville with the afternoon high barely scratching into the mid-60s. Playing the 'under' has been the safest way to go when the Razorbacks are on the gridiron, but my free college football pick is taking the points and the visitors in this one.
