Let's not jibber-jabber too much and get after what to think about for this week's college football picks.

Live Dog in Austin?

When a program like Iowa State is not used to winning, the players, even though they have not been there the entire time, they know the history. The Cyclones have not had a winning regular season since 2005. New coach Matt Campbell won at Toledo and has brought his offensive concepts to Ames.

The truth is Iowa State had both Baylor and Oklahoma State down big, but because the players do not yet truly believe they are better than those teams, they failed in the fourth quarter. With the Cyclones catching at least 13.5 points at Texas and the Longhorns ranked 114th in total defense, taking the digits with a team averaging 39 PPG in their last three games has to be worth a look.

ACC Eliminations Game in Coastal Division?

With North Carolina and Miami both losing last Saturday, the loser of this week's matchup might have a hard time catching Virginia Tech. That is especially true of the Tar Heels, who just fell to the Hokies. The Hurricanes opened as a solid touchdown favorite and have the superior defense.

 Nobody Saw This Coming

After Washington State lost opener to Eastern Washington 45-42 as 27.5-point favorites, what were the chances the Cougars being favored by 3.5-point at home against UCLA? Besides none and -slim- is riding on a horse headed out of town, not much. But with improving defense and better than expected lines on both sides of the line of scrimmage, this is a thought-provoking line on the Cougs.

SEC Home Underdogs With Any Shot?

Tennessee continues to amaze when being down large, but could not finish in OT at Texas A&M and is a 10-point home dog to top-ranked Alabama. The Vols cannot trail to a team like the Crimson Tide and has to be at the ready from opening whistle. With turnovers and big plays, Tennessee could cover at home.

All season against better competition, Arkansas just permits too many big plays. With how Mississippi can score and how quickly, not sure the Razorbacks at +6.5 will be enough and it might be worth waiting to see if +7 or higher arises on the Hogs.

Under the Radar Special

Middle Tennessee State opened as 2.5-point home favorites against Western Kentucky and if they can win, the Blue Raiders place themselves in a very good position to reach the Conference USA championship game.
