You know Charlie Strong and USF are thinking about the upcoming UCF mega-matchup, but does that make the Bulls a dangerous play as NCAA football odds favorites on Thursday vs. Tulsa?

As far as intrigue on the NCAA football odds board, there isn’t much in the matchup between the Tulsa Golden Hurricane and South Florida Bulls on Thursday. Just don’t kid yourself about how important the game is to Charlie Strong and the Bulls, however, with USF still setting its sights on an American Athletic Conference title and a New Year’s Six bowl invite.

ESPN has the 7:30 PM (ET) broadcast from Raymond James Stadium, where backing South Florida means giving up 22-23 points. The No. 23/20 Bulls are just a game behind Central Florida in the AAC East, with those two set for a season finale matchup in Orlando on Black Friday. Bookmaker is selling 68 for the early total.

Hurricane Blow Into Tampa On 3-Game Skid

In a battle with East Carolina and Cincinnati for the basement in the AAC, Tulsa has been an inconsistent mess. Philip Montgomery’s outfit has been upset in two of the three games they were favored, yet the Golden Hurricane also played very well on the road against a tough Toledo team and routed Houston as 14-point underdogs. The biggest problem has been a defense that is easily exploited on the ground and in the air, which doesn’t bode well against a nationally-ranked balanced offense like South Florida’s.

The Bulls failed to cover a similar spread two weeks ago at UConn, yet it was still nice to see Quinton Flowers have a big day directing Strong’s offense. The senior passed for a season-high 385 yards and ran for more than 130 more in USF’s 37-20 triumph following up on the lone loss this year to Houston two weeks prior. It’s not just offense the Bulls bring to the table, the defense ranked in the Top 25 in both points and yards allowed.

Matchup History, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

It has been three years and a coaching change at each school since these two teams met for the first and only time. Playing in Tulsa, South Florida rallied from a 20-point halftime deficit to leave Chapman Stadium with a 38-30 victory. The Bulls were 2-point road chalk, and combined 900 offensive yards in the matchup helped send the game ‘over’ a 50 point scoreboard hurdle.

If you have any snap at all, you know weather in Florida can change in an instant and will get an update before making your play. Still, right now, things look good on Thursday in the Big Guava. Temps should be in the low 70s at kickoff under mostly clear skies without a lot of wind interference. I’m focusing my free college football pick on both the ‘under’ and the Bulls in a 48-10 USF decision.
