UCLA begins their third season with Jim Mora Jr. as head coach. Although the schedule analysis utilizes college football betting data from just two seasons (the Mora era), we thought the limited data necessary, as the Jim Mora Bruins are significantly different from the Bruins coached by Mora’s predecessors.

09/13/14

(AT&T Stadium)

While UCLA is 1-1 ATS in neutral site games (both Bowl games), the Bruins are 7-1 ATS when playing out of conference. The Total went Over in five of those eight non-conference games.

Arizona State

Tempe, AZ

(Sun Devil Stadium)

UCLA is 1-1 vs. ASU with the Away team covering the spread each time. The Total went Over in both games. The Bruins are 1-1 ATS in Pac-12 openers, but 2-0 ATS in Pac-12 road-openers. Jim Mora’s Bruins are 3-0 ATS after a bye week.

10/4/14

Utah

Pasadena, CA

(Rose Bowl)

UCLA is 1-1 ATS vs. Utah. The ATS outcome has been decided by less than a field goal in each case. The Total went Under in both games by an average of more than 10 points.

10/11/14

Oregon

Pasadena, CA

(Rose Bowl)

UCLA is 0-1 ATS vs. UO, losing last season in Eugene by 28 points, failing to cover the spread by 4.5 points. The Total went Under by 18 points.

10/18/14

California

Berkeley, CA

(Memorial Stadium)

UCLA is 1-1 ATS vs. Cal with the Home team covering the college betting spread each time. The 2012 game in Berkeley was Mora’s worst ATS loss at UCLA. (The Bruins failed to cover the spread by 28.5 points.) The Total was split (one Over and one Under).

10/25/14

Colorado

Boulder, CO

(Folsom Field)

UCLA is 1-1 vs. CU with the Away team covering the spread each time. Last season, UCLA had 84% of the public betting on their side- the most in the Mora era- yet they failed to cover the spread by eight points. The Total was split.

11/1/14

Arizona

Pasadena, CA

(Rose Bowl)

UCLA is 2-0 ATS vs. UA. The last time they played in the Rose Bowl (2012), UCLA beat the SPREAD by 46 points- far and away Mora’s greatest ATS victory at UCLA. Based on the closing number, the Total went Under both times, but each game fell within four points of that closing Total.

11/8/14

Washington

Seattle, WA

(Husky Stadium)

UCLA is 1-0 ATS vs. UW, beating the spread by a TD in Pasadena last season. The Total went Over by 11.5 points. Mora’s Bruins are 10-9 ATS in Pac-12 play, including a 6-4 ATS mark in Away Pac-12 games.

11/22/14

USC

Pasadena, CA

(Rose Bowl)

UCLA is 2-0 ATS vs. their archrival from across town. ATS, those games have not been close as the Bruins beat the SPREAD by an average of 20 points, despite getting LESS THAN 40% of the public betting on their side! The Total was split.

11/28/14

Stanford

Pasadena, CA

(Rose Bowl)

UCLA is 1-2 ATS vs. Stanford. In both 2012 games (yes, they played twice that season), the OPENING Total went Under while the CLOSING Total went Over. Last season’s Total was not close, going Under by 20.5 points.
