Hopefully this bowl game ends of having more value than the title sponsor. For those betting college football, this will be the last contest of the day with Christmas Eve next on the docket.

Dollar General takes over as sponsor for GoDaddy in this bowler down in Mobile, Alabama. The college football odds at A+ rated Bookmaker (an SBR readers favorite), has Troy as four-point favorite over Ohio U. in the second of two Sun Belt vs. MAC matchups.

Time to delve into who can pull this one out for college football picks.

Ohio U. Covers and Possibly Pulls Upset By...

Doing what they do best, leaning on their defense. Ohio U. (8-5, 7-6 ATS) was 26th nationally in points allowed at 22.2 points a contest and kept opposing team 21 percent below their normal scoring average. In the MAC championship game, the Bobcats held unbeaten Western Michigan to 29 points, which more than 14 points below their average.

On offense, Ohio U. is below average at just 26.5 PPG and they will have to have success running the ball on Troy to have any chance of passing the pigskin well. The Bobcats are 6-1 ATS away from home this season and 4-2 ATS as bowl underdogs since 2006 and can engineer upset if they find enough offense.

Troy Wins and Covers By...

If they come back refreshed. Troy (9-3, 6-6 ATS) was 8-1 off a big win over Appalachian State and was facing Arkansas State at home for first place in the SBC. The Trojans beat themselves with five turnovers and lost 35-3 to the Red Wolves. Troy still could have been a tri-champion in their conference, but dropped season finale to South Alabama.

Like Ohio U. the Trojans put together first winning season since 2010 with defense, which conceded only 22 PPG (22nd nationally). On the year, the Trojans only allowed 124 yards per game on the ground but appeared to wear down the last four contests in giving up 175.5 YPG, thus. the break might help them.

Quarterback Brandon Silvers spearheads an offense that averaged 34.2 PPG by completing 64.2 percent of his passes for 2,945 yards and 22 touchdowns. If Troy grabs a 10 or more point lead, their defense can do the rest.

Motivation Level For Both Teams

Since Frank Solich took over as head coach, the Ohio U. football program has gone from doormat status to quite respectable and this will be their eighth bowl contest in 11 years. The Bobcats are 3-4 and 4-3 ATS in bowls at this time, but not sure what a trip to Mobile does to excite this group.

After winning or sharing five straight SBC titles (2005-10), Troy fell off, thus, they should be excited for first bowl appearance in six years. The Trojans are 2-2 and 2-1-1 ATS in their bowl game history.

What To Watch For and Outcome

This sets up to be a low-scoring affair by early bowl game standards because of the defenses. With Troy having a better passing game, more team speed, fans from the state of Alabama and pleased to be back in the bowl picture, it will be the Trojans by 7 over Ohio U.
