Rutgers vs. (14) Washington
Washington brings in a top 5 defense in the country. I live out on the west coast not far from campus so I’m able to follow this team closely all offseason - a lot of the guys you watch on this roster will play on Sundays in the future, they’re that quick and big.

Rutgers has to fly cross-country in a game they are so outmatched athletically on the road. Rutgers may have a tough time putting up 10 points in this game, seriously.

On offense, Washington likes to play ground & pound which should move the clock often. Unless Washington’s run game & defense play even better than expected and they run up the score on turnovers, this game should stay low.

(20) USC vs. (1) Alabama
Alabama comes into this game with the clear edge in the coaching department – Nick Saban runs a well-oiled machine in Alabama. Clay Helton is a first year head coach for USC and, no disrespect to him, but going up against Alabama in primetime to open the season is a tall order for experienced coaches let alone someone taking over a program this year.

This matchup is similar to last year when Alabama played Wisconsin early in the season at home and Alabama cruised 35-17.

USC had a ton of distractions last year and I just don’t see how they’re as ready for this season as Alabama is. USC will have a new play-caller at QB, it’s too many things going against the Trojans right now and I’m backing Alabama under the lights.

(10) Notre Dame vs. Texas
Texas really stepped up their game at the end of last season but Notre Dame as a whole is bigger, stronger, and faster. Texas’s players are a step behind the Irish’s roster in a few key positions and the Irish definitely have the edge in the experience department.

Texas Head Coach Charlie Strong is on the hot seat and will be under pressure to perform early. Easier said than done especially if your personnel isn’t there to get you over the hump.

Notre Dame has the upper-hand on both sides of the ball in the trenches and they have experience at the most important position, quarterback. I think Notre Dame is just too much for Texas in this game.

Free NCAAF Pick:  Notre Dame -3.5
Best Line Offered: at Heritage
