We're going coast to coast & noon to midnight with this weekend's top plays, stopping along the way for three conference matchups with game analysis and free college football picks.

It's so easy to be distracted by the dangling shiny objects a weekend like we're heading towards offers. Six top-25 matchups highlight the college football betting card on Saturday, three alone in the SEC West Division, leaving little time for the undercard action which is so often the best.

But there are some tasty morsels off the beaten path in Week 6, offering NCAA pigskin bettors a chance to quietly turn a profit away from all the noise in the marquee games.

Southern Methodist vs. East Carolina
We'll kick this weekend's top plays off with a matchup of programs headed in opposite directions as the SMU Mustangs visit the East Carolina Pirates for a Conference USA showdown. By all accounts, this should be a cakewalk for the Pirates, and the spread on SBR's live college football odds reflect that.

The noon (ET) boot can be seen on ESPNU, and East Carolina is 40.5 point chalk after the betting started at -35.5; Saturday's total is 58.5 after starting onn, 61. It's the first meeting between the two since 2010, and fifth overall with the series level 2-2 on the field and at the window (both teams 2-2 ATS).

Southern Methodist is the team on the decline, in case you slept through September. It isn't -- or shouldn't -- take as long to rebuild the football program as when the Ponies were handed the NCAA's death penalty team after the 1986 season, but June Jones quitting two games into this season won't do SMU any favors.

Meanwhile in Greenville, Ruffin McNeil has ECU on the rise in his fourth season as head coach, and has the Pirates headed towards their third consecutive bowl appearance and possibly a 2nd-straight 10-win season after they'd never won more than nine games before.  East Carolina just put 70 on North Carolina last week and should be able to name the score against SMU. The Pirates do have a big game at South Florida on deck, and I wish I'd grabbed this one earlier, but I'm still laying the big spread for my free college football pick.

Texas Tech vs. Kansas State
A chance to move to 2-0 in the Big 12 race awaits the Kansas State Wildcats who get a visit from the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The college football oddsmakers believe that will happen with the 'Cats giving up 14.5 on the spread in the 7 PM (ET) that can be seen on ESPNU.

Kansas State shouldn't have any reason to look ahead to its next game despite that being on the road at Oklahoma. Bill Snyder and the Wildcats will have two weeks to prepare for the Oklahoma Sooners, and the coaching staff should be able to keep K-State's focus strictly on Tech.

The Red Raiders, meanwhile, are playing their second consecutive ranked foe on the road after last week's 45-35 loss at then-No. 24 Oklahoma State. Kliff Kingsbury has the Tech offense clicking to the tune of 499+ yards per game (23rd in nation), but they've turned it over nine times already and the defense is stinking up the joint.

While Kansas State is aiming for its fourth straight win and cover in this series, 'over' bettors are hoping to cash for a seventh consecutive matchup. And that's where I'm heading for my free pick in this one with a play on the high side of the 68 point total.

Boise State vs. Nevada
If you still haven't had your fill of either watching or betting college football by the time the CBS Sports Network begins its broadcast at 10:30 PM (ET), then I highly recommend checking out the tussle between the Boise State Broncos and Nevada Wolf Pack.

This is a crucial matchup in the Mountain West where Nevada (1-0) is part of a 3-way tie in the West Division and Boise State (1-1) is desperate to avoid a second conference loss this early on the slate. The Broncos have dominated this series on the scoreboard, winning 13 of the last 14 meetings going back to when the schools were in the WAC and Big West conferences.

But it's Wolf Pack backers who have grabbed the cash the last five clashes, and six of the past seven. The line went out Boise -1.5, but that has tripled to -4.5 with a 52.5 point total also available for wagering. I'm liking the movement away from Nevada and will be playing the Wolf Pack plus the points.
