We have four bowl games on this New Year’s holiday, and although it’s on a Monday I’m still working on giving you my best picks of the day in college football. I’m guaranteed a winning record on the season, but let’s add more units to the cupboard.

2015-16 NCAAF Record: 42-37-2, +1.30 Units

USC vs. Penn State

Although both of these teams average over 30 points per game, there is a huge discrepancy on when they score them. USC averages 19.6 points per game in the first half, while Penn State averages just 13.3. Not only that, but the Penn State defense allows 19.3 points per game in the first half on the road. I’m calling this a road game for Penn State since it is being played in the Coliseum in Los Angeles.

Also, word on the street (I work with a friend of Clay Helton) is that USC is pretty stoked about playing in the Rose Bowl. Quite an accomplishment for the team after starting the season 1-3. Pair that with a Penn State team that has to be disappointed not to be in the CFB playoffs and you have a discrepancy in motivation. USC will come out hot and I like them to take a lead into halftime before Penn State wakes up.

Western Michigan vs. Wisconsin

I like Western Michigan in this spot, but will wait for the 2nd half to wager on the side. The reason for that is that I don’t know how these two teams will really match up, and my hunch is that there will be a huge mismatch one way or another that will translate to points on the board.

Either Wisconsin won’t be interested and Western Michigan’s high powered offense, at 43.5 points per game, takes over, or Wisconsin will show that they outclass Western Michigan in the trenches and be unstoppable on the ground. I like the Over in any of those two cases.

Auburn vs. Oklahoma

In the Odds Couple video coverage of this game I locked in on one fact, that this Auburn team out of the SEC West is going to be rested after a brutal conference season. On the other hand, we’ve seen multiple high scoring offenses where the long layoff hurt their rhythm, such as Washington State and Boise State in their respective bowl game losses.

While Oklahoma has been in games passing the total of 70 on the season, I like teasing to that key number because Auburn has not. The slogging pace of SEC play won’t allow it, even in their blowout wins. And I like Auburn to keep it close, because even though Oklahoma has won 9 straight games they are not in the playoffs, and have to be kicking themselves for their Week 1 loss to Houston as a 13.5-point favorite.

Free NCAAF Pick: Auburn +3, Under 70 (Teasers)Best Line Offered: at BetOnline
