The college football season jumps into week 12, and that only means the pressure is going to be more fully felt by all the teams that are winding down their 12-game schedules. These are not season finales but the value of making another big step toward a successful season is a big deal.

Baylor Bears vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Odds: Oklahoma State -1
This is a game in which the big news all week has been whether or not the Bears would be able to start backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham, their new number one quarterback after the season-ending injury to Seth Russell. Stidham needs to play in this game. If Baylor can’t play him, a third-stringer named Chris Johnson would play. Johnson is seen as nowhere near ready enough for this game. Stidham could win it, especially since he’s gained important experience in the Bears’ loss to Oklahoma last week. It was announced earlier on Thursday that Stidham will be able to play in this game. This does give Baylor a legitimate chance.

However, Oklahoma State has not lost to Baylor at home in several decades. The Cowboys always have Baylor’s number in this game, at least since World War II. It is true that Baylor has not been very good over the course of that period of time, with very few exceptions. Baylor is now a truly good team, one that is capable of winning on the road. However, the quarterback situation, combined with Oklahoma State’s very strong home record (especially against TCU a few weeks ago – the Cowboys looked great in that game) should carry the Cowboys over the top. Take Oklahoma State.

Texas A&M Aggies vs. Vanderbilt Commodores
Odds: Texas A&M -6.5
The key point to make here is that Texas A&M has been terrible this season, especially over the past month. The Aggies have lost their way on both offense and defense. They have continued to try all sorts of ways to jump-start their team, but head coach Kevin Sumlin, offensive coordinator Jake Spavital, and defensive coordinator John Chavis have all failed. The Aggies did not look very good last week at home against a lower-division team. They are all out of sorts, and while Vanderbilt does not have a very powerful offense, the Commodores have a very good defense which is talented enough to force multiple turnovers against opponents. Vanderbilt should at least keep this game close if not win it. Take the Commodores plus the points on the college football odds.

California Golden Bears vs. Stanford Cardinal
Odds: Stanford -11
It’s a matchup of two heated rivals in an event called Big Game. The Cardinal are the favorite at home, and against a weak California defense, they should score a lot. However, Stanford’s secondary has been wracked with injuries, so California should be able to score a bunch as well. This will be a high-scoring game, but one in which the underdog Golden Bears should be able to cover the number. Take Cal with your college football picks.
