We’re going to examine Friday’s nationally televised game between Louisville and Wake Forest. Go inside to read an in depth analysis on both teams, and the article culminates with a college football pick.

Friday Night Lights in the ACC
Louisville (3-4) travels to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for a Friday night ACC battle with Wake Forest (3-5). The opening kickoff at BB&T Stadium is slated for 7:00 PM ET, and it will be aired by ESPN2. Early (10/27) college football odds show Louisville as a 12-point favorite and a total of 42. These teams met last season during Louisville’s inaugural ACC season, and The Cardinals prevailed with a 20-10 home win while failing to cover as a 21-point favorite. That game easily stayed under the total of 44.

Defense Fuels the Fire for Cardinals
There’s no doubt that Louisville’s defense is their strong suit in 2015. Last week they held Boston College to a paltry 79 yards of total offense during a 17-14 home win. Since the start of the 2013 season, Louisville is 7-0 under the total following a game in which their defense allowed 225 yards or less. Those seven games averaged a combined 36.6 points scored per contest. The Cardinals stop unit has allowed 228 yards or less in three of their previous four games. The only exception during that sequence was at Florida State. The flip side to that equation, Louisville has also averaged only 19.3 points scored per game in their last three outings. The Cardinals are 4-1 under the total in their previous five games.

Wake Up Forest
Wake Forest was off to an encouraging 3-3 start to the season, and then was lambasted in their previous two games. The Demon Deacons were blown out 50-14 at North Carolina, and last week were routed 35-17 on its home field against North Carolina State. The Wake Forest defense had some good moments in the first seven games. They held opponents to 14 points or less on three separate occasions, and that included a 3-0 win at Boston College. Their offense has really struggled of late, averaging a mere 11.3 points, and 241.0 yards per game during its last three outings. On a positive note pertaining to their offense, they’ve averaged 34:00 in time of possession through four home games, and that’s certainly relieved a ton of pressure off their defense.

Final Analysis
There’s a reason why the total in this game is so low. Neither one of these teams will be mistaken for an offensive juggernaut. I like this contest to be a low scoring affair, and one of my college football picks will be indicative of that prediction.
