Our college football analyst provides us with an early look at Saturday’s game between Iowa State & Oklahoma. Join us in reading this preview article that culminates with his college football pick.

Upset Minded Cyclones out to halt an Oklahoma Hex
Iowa State (3-5) goes for their second upset win in a row on Saturday when they take on #14 Oklahoma (7-1). The opening kickoff at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman is slated for 7:00 PM ET. At the time of this writing, college football odds at BetOnline had Oklahoma as a 25 point favorite, and the posted total was 61. The Sooners have defeated Iowa State 15 consecutive times. They’ve gone 4-0 ATS in the last four versus the Cyclones with a massive +37.5 point per game differential. Oklahoma won last season’s meeting in Ames, Iowa by a decisive score of 59-14. The last time Iowa State won a game in this head to head series came way back in 1990.

Deceiving Record
When I previewed last week’s Iowa State and Texas matchup, I pointed out that the Cyclones were better than their 2-5 record indicated. That point is worth explaining again. Four of their five losses have come against teams that were nationally rated heading into this week. The cumulative records of the five teams they’ve lost to this season was 32-4 (.889) following Week 9. On a negative note, Iowa State is 0-3 on the road this season, lost by an average 20.0 points per game, and allowed 47.0 points in addition to 523.3 yards per contest. The Cyclones have lost their last seven away games. Since 2005, they’ve gone an abysmal 7-36 on the road.

Red-Hot Sooners
Oklahoma couldn’t have hoped to play following their stunning upset loss against Texas. Since that time, they’ve gone 3-0 SU&ATS, won by 48.7 points per game, and averaged 60.0 points and 631.7 yards per contest. The Sooners are a perfect 4-0 at home this year, covered three of those contests, and outscored opponents by an average of 37.3 points per game. If they needed extra motivation, they can draw it from the fact that Iowa State knocked off Texas last week 24-0, and that Longhorns team handed them their only loss.

Final Thoughts and Pick
I wouldn’t get too carried away with the Iowa State dominant performance at home last Saturday against Texas. They’ll be facing an Oklahoma program on Saturday that’s on much more stable ground, and hasn’t been anywhere near as erratic in comparison to last week’s opponent. I look for Oklahoma to jump all over Iowa State early in this contest, and things to snowball from that point on. The Sooners are also in need of some much needed style points in order to creep back into national playoff conversations. I’ll lay the big number for one of my college football picks.
