Though the college football season is still a baby in terms newness, this Saturday night will be one of best for viewing big matchups you will see all year, with shipload a great games.

Yet with all these awesome contests comes a lot of redundancy here at and other locales, thus, for college football picks I will delve into some of the other night games on the docket that have caught my eye.

My pal Willie Bee who wrote earlier games and is looking pretty good in his plays, so let's dive head first into other games of interest that are also televised Saturday night.

7:30 ET CBSSN Mississippi State at Louisiana Tech

The college football odds have risen on Mississippi State from -8 to -9.5, as the make the trek to Ruston. The Bulldogs from Starkville have SEC speed all across the field and the size to go along with. At worst, Nick Fitzgerald is the second-best quarterback in the SEC, while Louisiana Tech's J'Mar Smith has potential as a sophomore, playing Northwestern State last week is not good preparation for what he will face this evening. Techster Skip Holtz is well known as an underdog coach, but his counterpart Dan Mullen is 12-1 ATS off a home game recently.

8:00 ET BTN Western Kentucky at Illinois

When I first saw the adjusted total, it thought it was 'operator error' on the website. Then I started checking around and found similar sites had the same thing, with this total taken down from 60 to 51. I looked for injury or weather issue and there is none I could find.

What I do know about Illinois is they are the 13th ranked team in the Big Ten and looked like it barely beating Ball State. The last three Western Kentucky coaches have been Willie Taggert, Bobby Petrino and Jeff Brohm, all with an offensive bent. Not sure if new head coach Mike Sanford fits that mold.

Regardless, 51 points seems the lowest rung on the ladder for these two clubs and I will take the OVER.

11:00 ET PAC-12N San Diego State at Arizona State

Arizona State brought in a new defense coordinator after finishing last the past two years in pass defense in college football. The early results are not good, as New Mexico State, not exactly Quarterback University, threw for 398 yards last week in 37-31 loss. Enter San Diego State, whose been more known for rushing the last several years, but can still throw. With the combination of being able to run and pass versus the Sun Devils, that should be more than enough to keep them frustrated and I have no problem taking the +3.5 in this encounter.
