A couple of conference clashes and an All-Indiana battle make up our trio of Saturday night previews and free college football picks to help make up for a rough afternoon.

According to the great philosopher Elton John, Saturday night's alright for fighting, and this week's college football betting card certainly has its share of good brawls to take in. So let's get ready to rumble!

Purdue vs. Notre Dame
The Hoosier State battle between the Purdue Boilermakers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish seems as good a place as any to start. This longtime rivalry is set for a 7:30 PM (ET) kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, NBC handling the broadcast chores and the Irish expected to easily handle the Boilermakers.

Notre Dame started as 28 point chalk, and the spread has inched up to 29 after slipping a bit earlier this week. SBR's live College Football odds has charted a steady increase in the total from 55 to 59 points.

Brian Kelly brings the Irish into this clash off a huge win over Michigan last week, shutting the Wolverines out for the first time in 365 games with the 31-0 rout as 4 point favorites. Notre Dame has risen to 11th in both polls following the blowout wins over Rice and Michigan, and the only real question here is whether or not Kelly can keep his team from suffering a letdown against the Boilermakers.

This is the 86th meeting between the in-state foes, and the last until 2020 due to Notre Dame's commitment to play a heaver ACC football slate in the future. Purdue has dropped six straight to the Fighting Irish, but has covered the last two as at least 2-TD underdogs.  I'd love to see an outright upset, but that ain't happenin' so let's play the 'under' for our free pick to get the evening rolling.

Penn State vs. Rutgers: Nittany Lions Hit Road Following Good News
It has been a great week for James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions who received an early release by the NCAA for the Jerry Sandusky mess.  Franklin and his staff would love to cap that off with a victory in New Jersey over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights who are making their Big Ten debut.

An 8 o'clock (ET) boot at High Point Solutions Stadium is part of this week's BTN package, and PSU arrives in Piscataway a field goal favorite with 52 for the total for the first meeting between the clubs in 19 seasons.

While Notre Dame's Kelly needs to avoid his team letting down against Purdue, Franklin has to keep the Lions from already looking ahead to the bowl season after the NCAA lifted those sanctions.  I believe Franklin can do it and that's why I'm going to lay the three on Penn State.

My Free College Football Pick: Penn State -3

Arizona State vs. Colorado: Sun Devils In Boulder As 15 Point Road Chalk
Summer is still in full swing down here in Texas, but winter has already arrived in parts of the country, including Boulder, Colorado where the first snow has been recorded and the Buffaloes host the Arizona State Sun Devils on the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

This is yet another game with the visitors laying the points as Arizona State is listed at -15 on the college football betting board with 69 for a total. Both of those numbers are up a point from the openers.

This one is pretty simple since I don't think Colorado can stop Arizona State's running attack. Climbing up about 4,000 feet in elevation from Tempe to Boulder always presents a problem for visitors, but I'm still banking on the Sun Devils with my free College Football pick.

My Free College Football Pick: Arizona State -15
