Florida St. vs. Oregon (-8-) 5:00 ET ESPN
Florida St. meets Oregon in the 1st of the Semi-Final games in CFB’s first ever Final Four.  It is a matchup that provides great intrigue between Heisman Trophy winners in each of the last 2 seasons.  It also features an inflated betting line based on the pointspread performances of these two, as well as public perception. Let’s take a look at each of these programs and why there is such value in the Florida St. selection as underdog.

There is not much bad to say about the Oregon Ducks, whose explosive offense and flashy Nike inspired jerseys have captured the attention of the public from coast to coast.  That is no small feat, considering that much of the more highly-populated East coast has already turned off the lights when the Ducks take the field on many Saturdays.  The program has prospered for many seasons, dating to the early part of this millennium, when Mike Belloti was at the controls.  But, it really came into its own in 2009 when Chip Kelly (current HC of Philadelphia Eagles) took the reins.  In 4 seasons under Kelly, the Ducks tasted defeat only 7 times.  In the last 2 seasons under HC Helfrich, the Ducks have barely missed a beat.  Following a 12-1 SU, 9-4 against the spread on college football betting odds season, Helfrich has a 2 year record of 23-3 SU, 16-9 ATS. Making the Ducks even more alluring is the squeaky clean image of their Heisman Trophy winner, QB Mariota, who has thrown only 2 INTs all season in the fast-paced Oregon offense.  Quantifying that attack finds the Ducks averaging 46 PPG on a balanced 546 YPG at an amazing 7.3 YP play.  What is not to love about an Oregon team who has cashed 8 consecutive tickets and captured the fancy of all of America?

College Football Picks: Florida State +750 to Repeat as Champs

Today’s opponent is an underrated defending champion, Florida St. Seminole.  All that Florida St. has done is win 29 consecutive games, capturing last season’s National Title, as well as winning all 13 games this season.  As is so often the case, champions are an overrated pointspread entity the following season.  Such is the case for the Florida St. team, who went 3-10 ATS this fall.  Granted, both the offensive and defensive numbers are down from last season.  But, this team trailed numerous times at the half, and responded in each game with victory.   That is in no small part a function of the play of QB Jameis Winston, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner.  Be assured Winston has already taken the challenge against this year’s Trophy holder.  Though Winston has suffered numerous off-field allegations and brushes with the law, he continues to put those behind and play with aplomb on the field.

In conclusion, please note the strong tradition of this Florida St. program, who has won 6 consecutive Bowl games, covered 9 of their previous 10 post-season contests and is now appearing as an underdog for the first time in 49 games.  Value clearly lies with Florida St. in this contest. When selecting your NFL picks for today note the value clearly lies with Florida St. in this contest, a team who would have been favored in this matchup in the opening week of the season.
