Our college football betting analyst provides his early lean on Saturday’s game between Ole Miss and Alabama. Join us in reading this preview which culminates with his point spread pick.
Revenge Game for Crimson Tide against Ole Miss
The #2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will host #15 Mississippi on Saturday. The opening kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa is slated for 9:15 PM ET. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN. According to current (9/14) College Football Betting Odds, Alabama is a 6.0 to a 7.0 point favorite. The Crimson Tide will be out to atone for their only regular season loss last season. They were upset as a 4.0 point favorite at Mississippi 23-17. That contest easily went under the total of 53.0.
Ole Miss couldn’t have scripted a better start to the season. They opened with blowout wins by scores of 76-3 over UT-Martin, and 73-21 against Fresno State last week. The Rebels amassed over 600 yards of total offense in both games, and they also forced 5 turnovers. The three Ole Miss quarterbacks combined to complete 69.2% of their pass attempts and threw for 716 yards. The Rebels have also averaged a mammoth 7.8 yards per rushing attempt and ran for a total of 553 yards.
Alabama opened the season with an impressive neutral site 35-17 win over a very good Wisconsin team. As a matter of fact, many experts predicted the Badgers defense to be elite in their preseason assessments. They very well may be in due time, but it was the polar opposite against Alabama. The Crimson Tide torched the Wisconsin stop unit for 502 yards of total offense. Alabama went through a workmanlike performance during a 37-10 win over Middle Tennessee State last Saturday in their home opener. It certainly posed as a danger spot considering that game was sandwiched between Wisconsin and Ole Miss. They forced 4 Blue Raiders turnovers and held them to just 275 yards of total offense.
College Football Betting Angle
Any home favorite of 5.5 or more, coming off two consecutive wins by 17 points or more, versus an opponent (Ole Miss) that scored 42 points or more in each of their previous two games, resulted in the home favorite going 23-6 ATS (79.3%) since 1992.
This unequivocally will be the sternest test thus far for both of these teams. There’s something very enticing about Alabama being a single digit home favorite, and also playing with revenge. My early lean goes to the home favorite for one of my College Football Picks. At the time of this writing, BetCris.com provides me with the best betting value.
